I’d say I’ve been looking at make up for long enough to be able to put together a really STRONG make up bag…something that has the vital components to create a nicely made up face…
(BTW it’s also my 26th birthday today…feels weird. Good job there’s a product in here with ‘Anti Age’ in the title).
Think about your everyday make up, for me that consists of foundation, concealer, eyebrows, blush bronzer, mascara and powder. A kit making up these very simple and reasonably priced items is a great way to help someone out who is just starting out with make up, or maybe you want to treat someone you know who has terrible eyebrows and you just want to nudge them in the right direction *giggles*.
Let’s start with base:
So, I use the Esteé Lauder Double Wear Foundation because I was able to find a really close match to my skin. I usually struggle in the lower price bracket ranges, but there are a few that I like from the drug store. The Esteé Lauder foundation starts at around £27, which might seem like a lot but you get LOADS of product and I received a little sample bottle which lasted me longer than you’d think too!
Other more reasonably priced options (that I’ve tried and are also very good) are…
My personal favourite concealer is a drugstore version from Maybelline. The Anti Age Eraser Eye is a bloody brilliant concealer. This costs under £10 and lasts for a very long time – it has a little sponge head applicator to make it extra easy, it’s not too high coverage, more medium. This is a really good formula that doesn’t sit in lines once set with a good powder :).
I use the Anti Age Eraser Eye with the Maybelline FIT Me Concealer which is the best highlighting and concealing product to layer over the top of other concealers. It’s great for adding just the right amount of coverage – if I’ve had a particularly heavy night this helps me out lol. I use the shade 20 for highlighting 🙂
When it comes to mascara, you are SPOILT by the drugstore (or high street stores as we say in Britain). Several of my favourite mascaras you can easily pick up from Boots for around £7-8. My current favourite is the Maybelline Lash Sensational which is brilliant for curling and lengthening – and it has a sturdy brush which means it’s perfect for catching all your lashes in a few sweeps. Other great alternatives are:
Rather than point you in the direction of a cheap product, I’d rather point you in the direction of the BEST performance product and let you make your mind up. My favourite product for everyday eyebrows is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade which costs around £15 but it’s so worth the money. Used with an angled brush, you can create defined yet natural brows and I wouldn’t be without it. The only downside is that this product can dry up – but I spray mine with a few pumps of Make Up Setting Spray and that injects a bit more life into it.
I also love the Soap & Glory Brow Archery for the days when speed is the name of the game!
Those are my most vital components that I think should live in your make up bag – if you liked this I may follow this post up with a part 2 containing blush bronzer highlighter and whatever else I can think of that finishes off the basics 🙂
