The Re-Launch of Roshni Reviews – Come take a look!

blog re launch

Hello Everyone!

This is so exciting to write, but as you read this post you will be reading it on my brand spanking new template and I have to say, I may have been away for a few days but THIS is what I’ve been working on :D.

I had been thinking for a while that I wanted to revamp my blog – 2 years is a long time to have the same template and I wanted a new one that showed off my content in the best way.

I hope you like the title banner! I was after something watercolour and didn’t like anything I found online AND I didn’t want to just use a random file from google images. I painted the background myself on paper with watercolour, reliving my youth spent trying every creative avenue possible. I’m quite proud of it (it might seem something tiny to you but I’m pretty chuffed!) so I hope you like it too, I was after something personal where I could think ‘YES, it worked!’

Have a little play around with it! You can get to my Youtube really easily to watch my newest videos, all of my social links are floating around at the top and my favourite Instagram widget will show you all the random stuff I put on there :).

So, I won’t witter on at you, but welcome to the new Roshni Reviews and I hope you will return to the more funky design again and again for your weekly beauty fix 🙂

Thank you so much to everybody that reads this little internet space!!

Lots of love,

Roshni xxx

How to Apply False Eyelashes – Success Guaranteed!

When I’ve done people’s make up or helped with it, this is the thing that everybody mentions – false eyelashes. Those wispy bands of small hairs have been known to stump the most accomplished beauty mavens!

Really, the key with false eyelashes is practice, but I do have some inside tips to make your life a lot easier!

false lashes

The things you will need for successful eyelash application are:

  • Eyelashes (duh)
  • Tweezers
  • Eyelash Glue (the one that comes in the pack is fine)

Put simply, if you are looking for a very natural lash then try the ones with sparser set lashes. For me, when I want something between natural and dressy I love using the Red Cherry Wispy Lashes (these are my ultimate favourites).

If you are definitely after a strip lash that LOOKS like one, get lashes where the eyelashes are mostly the same length – wispy ones tend to have varied lengths within them!

Once you have selected your favourite lashes, a good way to check they are right for you is to simply place them along your lash line without any glue. I tend to nudge my lashes down a bit so that I can get the lashes on top of them. This will help you see if the lashes need cutting (they may be too wide for your eyes). If this is the case, then trim a few millimetres off the OUTSIDE of the lashes. Never do it from the inside or you’ll ruin the look!

When you are ready (and have limbered up) to apply your lashes, gently peel the lash off the holder or case – try not to yank or pull too hard as you want to keep the shape of the lash band.

Grip the eyelash band in the middle of the lash band, close to the band itself so that you have a sturdy hold of it.

That just looks like ‘GLUNG’ to me, lol. There is nothing wrong with the eyelash glue that comes in the packet, with your eyelashes. But I find that if you are a bit messy, using a dark eyelash glue is a great idea. Duo do a dark brown version which is the one that I use – so if you have applied eyeliner beforehand then you won’t get a big white splodge on your eyeshadow.

Apply a thin line of eyelash glue and gently blow on the lash or wave it – this will help the glue to go a bit tacky.

THIS IS THE KEY…if you take anything away from this post it’s that you should wait until the glue has gone a bit tacky before you apply the lashes. This will help it adhere – if you try when you have just applied the glue it will slide all over the place.

When the glue is tacky, gently lower the lash onto your lash line – letting it fall in the middle first of all. Once the lash is rested on the centre of your lash line, use the tweezers to pull the lash to your lash line in the inner corner, then the outer corner. I have found this is the most fool proof way to apply.

When this is stuck, you can gently pinch (can you gently pinch?!) the eyelashes against your own, which will help them stay for longer.

ET voila!!

Let me know if you have any tips yourselves 🙂

Find me at :)

I’ve made the move! You can now find me at…

This is not a make up related post…shock horror :p! On Sunday I made the move to register my own domain, which is now complete and I am very happy with it!

As I have only just changed over, please bear with me as there might be things that have gone awry but I will be keeping my watchful eye on it to make sure it doesn’t affect posting…you will still get 3 posts a week minimum.

It wasn’t the easiest process and I have a few tips to give you if any of you are looking at migrating your blog to a self hosted custom domain.

All in all it took about 1 and a half days of me looking into it and checking before it was completely wrapped up, I think this tends to vary depending on who you buy your domain and hosting from. Speaking to other bloggers who have already made the move to self hosted was useful too, even if they did it in a different way!

The tips I have for you…

  • Research – reading up on forums and how to’s will help you massively and give you an idea of any problems you might encounter, and how to fix them.
  • Make a list of the whole migration process – Now, as far as I see it you have two options. First one is to buy a self hosted domain and map it to your site. This will keep your likes, comments and followers as normal. Second one is to export and import your blog into a self hosting platform that has WordPress integration…BUT the likes on your posts won’t be transferred (I didn’t know this until after I had imported it, but luckily you can map it afterwards).
  • If you want Google Analytics and want to keep your likes on your posts, you have to have a business WordPress upgrade for analytics.
  • Keep a record of all order references for your domain and hosting, many sites offer a 30 day refund so that if anything happens you know you can go back to normal if needed.
  • Keep the support details of your hosting company handy in case you need to raise a ticket or email them, they are the experts and can help you!
  • REMEMBER that your WordPress blog still exists unless you delete it 🙂

I am really glad that I am now at, it’s really exciting and I can’t wait to focus on giving you reviews, how to’s and posts that are perfect to read with a cup of tea!

(Trust me, articles about hosting and domains just don’t go with a cuppa and a Malted Milk!)

The Liebster Award!

Hello ‘Pressers!

[Update, Unachicaandherblog has just nominated me too, March 2015! Big thank you :)]

The lovely Vogue Infatuation has nominated me for the Liebster Award, and this being my first ever award anyone has nominated me for, I am really grateful and excited :). December really marked a change for me in blogging, and I have seen the biggest uplift since I started posting more frequently with what I feel is more relevant, exciting articles. I am now posting at least 3 times a week so everyone (including me) can get their full dosage of beauty news and rambly reviews!

The rules of the award are:

…There were no rules on VI’s blog and for this I am pleased!

NOW, onto the questions :):

1. What’s three things on your bucketlist?

This is a brilliant question to begin with! OK, I would LOVE to do a skydive or bungee jump one day. I know it sounds really scary and sick inducing but I still think it would be a great experience to feel that close to…flying!

I definitely want to go to the Caribbean on a holiday (which I know isn’t much of a bucket list thing but still something I want to do!) Mostly for the sun, clear waters, palm trees and white sandy beaches…ahh one can dream.

Third thing would probably be to write my own novel. I’ve always been a keen writer and I have ALWAYS had a very active imagination! I think the hardest thing there will be discipline…but this blog is teaching me that already!

2. Craziest thing you’ve done?

I’ll be really honest here…I’m not a crazy person at all (I don’t mean mentally I mean on the kookiness scale). I think the ‘craziest’ thing I can think of is probably starting this blog! Oh and meeting Gabby from Velvetghost and ACTUALLY going up to talk to her…

3. What’s one place you would love to visit?

Ahh well I’ve already kind of answered this point in the first question! I think because of that I’ll tell you the NEXT place I want to visit. That’s India. My mum and dad are from India and I have only been once before, but I was too young to remember much other than the plane journey and probably stealing a mango from someone’s tree.

4. Best thing you have accomplished?

So far, I would say going from having completed an English Literature and Media degree, to having 2 weeks work experience and then landing a job in marketing with very little experience. Proving myself in a role like that within 1-2 years was something I was very proud of, and I hope to top that at some point too!

5. Favourite item (clothings, jewellery, etc)

At the moment, I would say that my favourite items of clothing so far are my Minnie Mouse onesie 🙂 and my navy velvet long sleeve swing dress from Boohoo that I bought before Christmas. For jewellery, I would have to say my gold ear cuff from Urban Outfitters!

6. Favourite food?

Hmm, well I have to say…I LOVE FOOD. I get excited about eating out, I often drool over Foodstagrams and I love baking as well. I think my favourite food would have to be a traditional Indian curry (made by my mum, of course) and chapattis. That, or some samosas home made with my sister’s secret recipe dip.

7. What made you start blogging?

I decided to start my own blog after I had started getting into watching a lot of Youtube tutorials. I found one of Tanya Burr’s make up tutorials one day whilst browsing, and it all went off from there really. As I’m not the most confident person in the world, I thought that a blog would be a great way to put something out there that might be of value to someone somewhere, and I just want to say I’m really grateful to anyone who visits my modest little blog!

8. Where do you hope your blog to be in five years?

This is a difficult one, as I would say my blog is really a little new born baby in the blogging world. I guess here I can only say what I would LIKE to happen. I would love to, for now, keep my blog as something I enjoy using as a way to express my opinion, but eventually I would love to expand to working with brands and becoming a more full time blogger..which I know is a pipe dream but we all have it!

9. Funniest moment you’ve had?

This is easy to think of. About 12 – 13 years ago, I was in a café with my best friend from school and her mum, and I was just about to open a sachet of ketchup to dip my chips into. I struggled with the sachet, and ended up squirting the longest line of it across the table, all the way across the floor, and right up a man’s trouser leg. He was wearing cream chinos. Yep. Stifling those hoots of laughter was seriously hard!

10. Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years I hope to maybe see myself still blogging or writing in some way, happy and probably starting a family of my own 🙂

Thanks for reading, I nominate the below bloggers (apologies if you have already been nominated!):

Here are my questions to you!

1. Who is your idol in life?

2. If you could pick one person to play you in your life story, who would it be and why?

3. What is your favourite film?

4. What is the hardest thing you have had to experience so far in life?

5. What’s the one beauty product you cannot live without?

6. Who is your biggest style inspiration?

7. If you could be an animal for a day, which would it be and why?

8. What made you start blogging?

9. What are your most visited online retailers?

10. What’s your most annoying habit?

I look forward to reading your answers, let me know if you do it!
