Week 1 – The Body Shop Advent Calendar!

Hello you lovely people!

We are getting truly into the Christmas spirit – with THREE advent calendars (two chocolate, one beauty) to open on the regs I can say that I am a very happy girl 🙂 (doors of joy people, doors of joy).

I can now introduce you to the little treats that I’ve received in the first week of my advent calendar! I gave you a little first peek post which you can read here. Now we have 5 days of products that I can show you!

So far I can say that I’m pleased with the treats I’ve had from the first few days of the calendar – it’s been really fun thinking about what could be inside the different sized boxes and I’ve loved opening them.

So we have had:

  • A little pot of Vitamin E Moisture Cream
  • Shea Body Butter
  • Black Kohl Eye Definer
  • Fuji Green Tea Body Wash
  • Pale Green Loofah!

My favourite items out of this week’s advent calendar has to be the Fuji Green Tea body wash because it smells WAY better than you would expect it to. It smells SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN CLEAN but in a really sophisticated, understated way like a subtle perfume. I can’t wait to use this – it looks very clarifying!

I can’t wait to show you what I get next week!

Also, I have had a big issue getting over what happens each day. basically, I thought that someone at the Body Shop would have had to the job to check the format of the boxes so that they didn’t all fall into a big mess.

Welllll lookee here!

Hahahaha, that’s all for today!

The Brightest Blush That Ever Did Live

I have a product to review for you today that is very versatile – some people will look at this and think it screams summer and playful days, some people will think this will give you a winter pinched flush. I happen to sit on the latter side of the fence. The product I am reviewing for you today is the MimiDidi Mineral Blush in the number 11.

I don’t blame you if you take one look at this blush and want to run away from it, holding your hands up to your face in fear. This is one of those products where a light hand isn’t just desired – it’s needed. Saying that though, I really love this blush as it is perfect for making it look like you’ve just been out for a brisk winter walk (wrapped up in a warm coat and a fluffy scarf).

I would recommend using a very soft, sparse blusher brush for this. Also, making sure once you have lightly dabbed your brush into it I would tap the excess off. This will make sure you can start off with less on your brush and slowly build up the colour if you want to.

What I especially like about this is that it is affordable and completely MATTE. Too many blushes nowadays are packed with shimmer and I think it can be too much sometimes. Especially if you want to use a highlighter across your cheekbones!

One other thing that will stop you looking like a clown is to use a white or cream bristle blusher brush – if you use one with black bristles it means you might not know how much product is on your brush in the first place.

I really like the packaging of this product too – don’t get me wrong, it is plastic but it is sturdy enough to travel and the chunky compact is quite nice to hold. Also – this would make a great Christmas present!

I have a 10% off code for anyone who is interested in browsing Born Pretty Store who kindly gifted me this product – the code is

Happy Shopping everyone!

How to Wave Your Hair – Quick and Easy!

Lol, I’ve just had a thought. I’ve done this ‘how’ to on waving your hair but if you could see my hair now it’s all sorts of pineapple and Rod Stewart (I’ve just got up).

ANYWAY, I’ve filmed a new video that is a quick and easy wavy hair look – using GHD straighteners. I would usually straighten my hair first before curling or styling but I’ve realised this process for waving doesn’t actually need that.

I love this as it’s a great simple alternative to having it straight for everyday and it doesn’t look too ‘done’.

I hope you enjoy it!

Have an amazing Sunday everyone xxxx

Ways to Relax When It’s Dark Outside

So we are getting to that point in the year where, when you get up in the morning IS DARK and when you get home after work IS DARK.

In the run up to Christmas, there are a few things that I like to do, that might seem very simple, but they are perfect ways to relax. Whether you are stressing about work, family, Christmas or romance, take a few minutes out of your day to chill the hell out!

1. Make yourself a Nutella Hot Chocolate

If you read other people’s posts about their favourite things to do, they may say “Woo go make a hot chocolate yeah!” but I on the other hand, am telling you to make yourself a NUTELLA hot chocolate. They are delicious!

All you need is a few blobs of nutella, some milk, and a microwave. Blob the nutella into a mug, pour in milk and leave some stirring space inside it. Warm in the microwave for 30 seconds, then take out and stir. Warm for another minute and stir. Then you should see the chocolate spread mixing with the milk, then warm for another 30 seconds if you like it freakishly hot!

2. Treat yourself to a Lush Bath

If you are a fan of Lush bath bombs and shower goodies, then having a special Lush bath is a great way to unwind. It keeps you warm first of all and it also means you can take some time to relax and soak any pains or aches away. It makes you sound old to realise this, but sometimes a bit of peace and quiet is just what you need!

3. Light a few candles and paint your nails

Sometimes this can even include some Youtube to have on in the background :). Lighting candles is a very therapeutic thing and if you have a few candles on in your room while you do something relaxing, it’s an excellent way to TELL yourself you are relaxing. Painting your nails with your favourite autumnal shade will mean you look ‘done’ AND you’ve relaxed a bit.

4. Curl up with a (enter autumnal colour) fleece blanket and watch some crap TV

So, I have a teal fleece blanket. It’s my favourite ever blanket and it lives at the end of my bed. Some days when I’m ill, sleepy, or stressed I will sit with said blanket and relax. Watching crap TV is another layer to make you feel better, it’s like a secret second blanket, where if you use it, you will feel instantly better :D. Serious.

5. Put on a face mask!

This is probably the most stereotypical ‘PAMPER YOURSELF, YOU ARE A WOMAN’ kinda thing to say but HEY, men out there if you fancy a face mask you knock yourself out. Putting on a face mask isn’t the most relaxing thing on this list for me, but it does make you stop and spend some time on your skin. When you are stressed or tired, your skin can show it the most. So taking the time to rub in your moisturiser for longer, spend time applying a cleansing face mask, and taking it off using a warm damp flannel will make you feel chilled and it’ll give your skin a helping hand :).

I hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about my favourite ways to relax in the run up to winter!

Thanks for reading y’all 🙂

The Winter Beauty Routine Edit

Hi Everyone!

In the past two weeks in the UK it’s definitely felt a lot colder. This is the sign of winter edging it’s way nearer to us, which means soon the evenings will start to get darker and all of a sudden you’ll be craving things like soup and hot chocolate.

When we start to move into Autumn/Winter there are a few things that I do to change my skincare and beauty routine around, which I like to call the Winter Beauty Routine Edit.

I’ve included TEN things you can do to shift your beauty routine into 5th gear and keep your skin and make up looking and feeling great even when it’s cold and dark and gloomy!

    1. Layer your moisturisers – using more than one moisturiser or moisturising method can boost your skincare massively. I am currently liking layering a Vitamin E moisturising face mist with the Clinique Moisture Surge!
    2. Carry around at least 4 lip balmslip balms are your friend as it moves towards winter – the harsh cold winds and increased use of heating can lead to dehydration leaving your mouth prone to cracking and dryness – EW.
    3. End your shower with a burst of colder water on your hair – ending your shower with a luke warm to cold burst of water helps to flatten your follicles which makes your hair shinier. It can also help to reduce frizz!
    4. Shower in the eveningthis is more of a personal tip – basically if you hate getting up early, and hate the fact in winter it’s really dark when you get up, shower in the evening so you get optimum sleeping time!
    5. Baths and bath bombsThis is where you add the luxury to your bath and skincare routine. Indulge in some splurging at Lush and order some bath bombs to treat your skin to a soak!
    6. Once a week, use a body scrubAlthough less people are seeing parts of your body, it doesn’t mean you have to forget about it! Use a good body scrub like the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub to keep your skin smooth and to buff away any dead skin cells – AGAIN, EW.
    7. Use a good foot cream – I don’t really wanna have to explain this one but it’s similar to the point above and, oh TRIPLE EW.
    8. Have a make up clear out – Take this as your chance to get rid of any manky old mascaras, any bacteria laden powders or dusty old lipsticks and clear them out! Use this time to refresh your make up collection for winter, remembering you want moisturising products – and you can experiment with plummier moodier colours if you are brave enough!
    9. Invest in a good liquid eyeliner – The windier, rainier and more torrential the weather gets, the more your make up is vulnerable to attack on a daily basis. Investing in a good LONG LASTING liquid eyeliner will stop you looking like a panda!
    10. Morrocanoil – This stuff is a god send! Smoothing a small amount of this through the ends of your hair is great for keeping hair in good condition during winter. My favourite way to use this is to warm a few drops in the palms of my hands for a few minutes and then hold the ends of my hair in my palm – the warmer the oil the better it will take to your hair (not like 100 degrees or anything!)

I hope you have found this useful to read as winter begins to knock at the seasonal front door like an unwelcome carol singer.

Please feel free to leave me a comment!

The Non Sickly Pastel Look

The gorgeous weather has hit again and we are definitely moving towards summer territory now. High streets are filled with pale pinks, yellows and lilacs, all in time for the sunshine! I’ve never really been a massive fan of pastels, preferring the moody maroons and mauves of winter.

I used to dislike it even more on nails, but I’ve had a bit of a U-turn (makes me think of Usher) and there are now more pastels that are more subtle rather than in your face light. Barry M brought out a great range of ‘Quick Dry’ polishes that have lovely pastels in them (I reviewed one of them here) and they have a wide selection of shades in their complete range.

Today I have a pastel lilac nail look for you, with a strawberry pastel pink accent nail. I loved this look as soon as I slicked the last swipe of Seche Vite over the top, which surprised me as I thought even these might be too light for me in the bottle.

I’ve used Barry M’s ‘Strawberry Ice Cream’ and Essie’s ‘Lilacism’, both of which are from the drugstore and in my opinion perform just as well if not better than some higher end nail polishes like Nails Inc and Ciaté. At just £2.99 for the Barry M and £7.99 for the Essie polish, they are pretty reasonably priced…(by the way the polishes are much brighter in colour than in the pictures on the links).

What I love in particular about this look is how GLASSY the polishes look. I have always thought that Essie polishes have has a gorgeous sheen to them, but this Barry M ‘Strawberry Ice Cream’ nail paint is just as good when it comes to the finish. I really like the combination of the two colours. To me, this is perfect for girls who are like me and don’t want to end up with a sickly sweet manicure.

What do you guys think of this look? What are your favourite pastel polishes?

Don’t forget you can follow me on the below social media! I follow back and always want new blogs to read 🙂

Ciaté Mini in ‘Silhouette’

Hi Everyone!

This is becoming a bit of a weekly thing now (a nail look post), so just to introduce the schedule from here on out I will be posting at least 3 times a week, with a nail look on Sunday at the beginning of the week. Then I will also be posting on Wednesday and Saturday! (P.S There may be some bonus posts on some weeks so keep your mascara’d eyes peeled).

The nail polish I have tried this week is one of the mini’s from the Ciaté Christmas Advent Calendar, which is called ‘Silhouette’. I think the name is very fitting for a polish of this colour as it is very chic, understated and glamorous. The colour itself is a burgundy, browny red, with a touch of glitter throughout it. When it catches the light, the red that shows up is much more of a true red and this makes it pretty special for me.

Tilted the polish so you can see how the glitter shines gold and red!

This polish does need a good two coats in order to build up the colour and opacity. When you apply the first thin coat, it looks like a really light pink. Once you let that dry for a few seconds and apply the second coat it takes on a whole new dark, moody colour which I LOVE <3.

Such a gorgeous colour!

What are your favourite colours to start the new year with?

I think I just can’t let go of the burgundy’s…:(

Gems from the Post Christmas Sales…

I thought I’d show you a few of my favourite things that I bought in the post Christmas sales. I know we are well into the joyful throes of January now, but it’s never too late to show off your shopping (in my opinion).

I think I was pretty good this year and I didn’t go mad. Not like Christmas time when my Dad was getting increasingly annoyed with the number of deliveries arriving at our house…oops.

The first place I went to was Matalan, where sometimes I go and find nothing, other times I go and just want to buy EVERYTHING. This time I was more sensible, and picked up a few essentials (ehem).

The first thing was this beautiful statement necklace, which has pale pink and dark purple gems/bits of plastic in. It was half price from £10 to £5, bargain!

Although it looks wuite orangey in this light, the gems are dark purple!

I think this would look great with a black high neck top, to really add some colour to an outfit.

The second thing I got from Matalan was a gorgeous grey wool scarf. Not the massive knitted type, but more of a softer, kind of blanket like scarf. It is so so soft, and I instantly feel warm when I put it on! It was £7, down from £12.

Don't you just want to crawl in there and curl up like a cat...

The third, and probably my most favourite thing that I bought was from The Calendar Club and it was an Edward Monkton Diary for 2015 (it had 40% off as 2015 had already started, making it only £5.49!

The animations and little sayings in it really make me smile, and it always makes me think of my dear friend Geri who first showed me Edward Monkton.

TOAST. REVENGE. 'Nuff said.

Christmas Eve Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate!

One of my most favourite things to do in Winter is make ‘homemade’ (cheats) hot chocolate.

Usually I would cheat with Nutella, I just put a dollop of Nutella into a mug of milk, then you simply warm it in the microwave until it has all dissolved. The most simple recipe you could ever ask for, at what I like to think is the laziest time of the year!

For a little twist on this, I bought a Tesco Finest Salted Caramel spread, and used the same process. The only niggle about this process is that it takes quite a lot of stirring to get the chocolate spread to dissolve.

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate..mmm

Whatever you do don’t leave your cup unattended in the microwave, I would have it on for 1 minute, then watch it for another minute so you can take it out every now and then to test how warm it is.

This is the perfect drink to have around Christmas, in fact, at any time of the year!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
