What’s In My Make Up Travel Bag?

I’ve been pretty busy the last few weekends and it’s made me realise that recently I have probably done the best in terms of trying to condense down my make up bag :). I thought I’d share with you the products that I’ve chosen that have pride of place in my make up bag when I am off on my travels on a weekend away or hen do like the weekend just gone!

I try to travel as light as possible and usually try to take multi tasking products – some of which you will recognise as I more than likely will have already spoken about them before.

My make up bag of choice is the Zoeva Rose Gold clutch that my make up brush collection came in.

Not only is it beautiful, but it’s the perfect size for storing a few choice make up tools and the essential things that ensure you can get your face from zombie to flo’less without having to carry shed loads.

When it comes to skin I have a few products that might be small but make a big difference to my make up.

The Esteé Lauder foundation I use is the Double Wear, which comes in a beautiful frosted glass bottle – NOT appropriate for travelling. Especially with the turbulence it would experience being banged about and hurled up stairs in Tube stations (poor little bottle). So I decanted some of this into a little empty sample pot I got from the Body Shop. For concealer, I use the Maybelline Anti Age Eraser Eye which is bloody brilliant at hiding those bags from late nights, in combination with the Maybelline Fit Me concealer for a bit more coverage.

The Revlon Photoready powder is PERFECT for setting your concealer without it flashing back too much in photography which is one of the reasons I bought this in the first place (it also has a little mirror in it which is useful).

Finally for skin I use the Tanya Burr Peachy Glow Palette as it has a bronzer, highlighter AND blush in it! Genius!

For eyes/eyebrows I use the Soap & Glory Brow Archery (all my packaging has rubbed off now lol) set with a Rimmel clear brow gel. The mascara of choice is a teeny tiny one, a little Benefit Roller Lash sample which is actually really good!

For tools, again I try to keep it down to a few key essentials – from Real Techniques my two favourite brushes and most USED brushes are the Buffing brush which I use for foundation and the Contour brush that is ideal for concealer under your eyes.

I always make sure I take my Tweezerman tweezers (you never know when you might need them), with a Laura Mercier cheek brush for powder and an FCUK brush which doubles for both bronzer and blusher :).

What essentials do you have in your travel make up bag?

I’d love to hear your essential products 🙂

I am always opening to swapping things out or finding a larger make up bag…I mean, no I’m not that’s a lie. Who said that?! *looks around*

My Autumn Beauty Essentials

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons (out of the 4 that is) and there are certain beauty products that I think are essential in this leafy, cosy but chilly time of year.

When you compare spring to autumn (those weird in between-y seasons), there are conditions that change the essential beauty items you need. Central heating can change your skin and make it dry, weather can disrupt your haircare routine and the dark nights gives you the opportunity to experiment with bold lips and sparkly eyes.

Here I’m going to run you through my Autumn Winter Essentials!

Dewy skin is a distant memory when it gets to autumn – the most important thing I usually need is for my skin to be matte, moisturised and clear of blemishes. The best foundation I have found (HA) is the Estée Lauder Double Wear. This is a great matte foundation which isn’t drying and has a great range of colours to match with your skin tone. It isn’t a thick foundation, but it has very good buildable coverage. It lasts a full working day, I would say…and you don’t need a lot of powder to set it in place – it almost sets as a powder itself. The shade I have is ‘Ivory Beige’ which is great for lighter Asian skin tones.

A more mauve toned blush is a great addition to your make up bag for autumn. Try to choose one that is pigmented and lasts for a long time. I really like the MAC Mocha blush, which has no shimmer through it and comes off a browny mauvey shade. It’s really beautiful when used across the cheekbones, but just be careful not to apply too much as it could look a little ruddy.

For a highlight, one product that is particularly good for darker autumn nights is the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in ‘Soft & Gentle’. I’ve talked about this product a lot on my blog before, but it really is that good. A very light coloured gold, shimmery highlighter, it is best used with either a fan brush or a slightly sparser make up brush – just dust it across your cheekbones and on your cupids bow.

Finally, to finish your face make up, a good setting brush is a must. I only actually got one of these recently, I invested in a Real Techniques setting brush for powder to set my concealer. This is a sparser brush that others in the range and it means that you don’t end up caking on powder on to your face – building it up in thin layers is the best way to make it last longer and look great.

Yessss, eyebrows has it’s own section. :). SO, for my eyebrows, I’ve started to love using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in the shade Ebony to create a slightly bolder brow look – usually I would just use the Soap & Glory Brow Archery which creates a more natural brow.

For lips, if you are creating a nude lip one of my favourite lip liners to use is the Revlon Nude Lip Liner. It pretty much does what it says on the packaging and I’ve found it’s a great match for my skin tone (it’s a browny toned liner for a nude lip). I actually used this on my sister for her wedding reception make up and it was a great match for her too.

Finally, for a bold lip one of the best shades of lipstick is Rimmel’s ‘Starry Eyed’ which is a browny burgundy colour. It’s not a very shiny formula, but is great with a lipliner and lasts for quite a while. It’s a very cool toned shade so makes your teeth look whiter too!

Totally Underrated Make Up Products…

Hello you lot!

It is FRIDAY. Now is the time to step out of your work shoes (if you wear heels you’re mental), put your hair up into a messy pineapple and sit with a cuppa or glass of wine to read this here post.

These products I’m going to talk about today are a great little collection if you are just starting out with make up, or want a second capsule collection if you are travelling. A few of these items are multi tasking as well as great performers, and if you’re like me you’ll love a good 2 in 1 beauty product.

I’ll focus on eyebrows first. I don’t do that when I do my make up but they are the second thing I go to sort out in the morning. The products I use and would say are now staples in my make up bag are the Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Brown and the Soap & Glory Archery brow pencil. These are brilliant for creating a really natural brow if you are light handed, if you aren’t light handed you can go from Groomed to Drag in 0 – 60.

You can use the Collection 2000 Colourlash Clear Mascara to set it, or as a simple eye lash definer. A delicate swipe of the Rimmel Scandaleyes eye liner in Nude is perfect for making you look awake and fresh faced, especially after a sleepless night.

For skin, my favourites are the Max Factor Cream Blush, which is great for giving you a really healthy dewy glow, and it lasts way longer than you’d think. Rimmel Stay Matte powder is an ABSOLUTE essential, with translucent shades that can keep you shine free all day. For eyes, my complete soul mate is the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze. This is the best cream eyeshadow I’ve ever used, it doesn’t crease, stays on all day and gives a gorgeous sheen.

What are your favourite underrated beauty products?

I thought these products deserved a bit of time in the lime light, they are most definitely repurchases and although I may try alternatives I will always come back! I swear…

Thanks for reading dears!

Recent Beauty Revelations

Hello Everyone!

It’s almost Easter and that means a nice long weekend 🙂 I’m thinking some bacon sandwiches would be nice to wake up to on Good Friday morning (food is always on my mind). I was doing my make up the other morning and discovered several stark beauty revelations in one go. I thought you fellow make up mavens would be interested and intrigued to find out what they are!

In the words of Kenan and Kel ‘Awwwh here’it goes!’:

1. The smell of a new mascara

Oh good god, it gets to a point where you may either have had the same mascara on the go for a few month OR several on the go for a while. Now, the moment when you get a NEW mascara is just blissful. The lovely perfumed smell, the sound as the brush pops out of the tube and the near  perfect application with a fresh formula. Ahh, to hell with mascara monogamy.

2. Cream blushers will last you forever

I have been using my Max Factor Cream Blush for a few months already and it has only just started to see a slight dip in the little pot. This stuff will seriously last a long time, as it is so pigmented so you need very very little. I love the sheer, natural finish that it gives. It just means that when you are 80, you will have the same cream blush to impress the old biddies at bingo.

3. Hold your eyelash curler right

Now I have the Shu Uemura eyelash curlers that are one of the best you can get, they have serious curling power and I’m really not used to it. This is why, you must must hold the eyelash curlers straight on. If you tilt them, or have them wonky what will happen is your inner eyelashes will look beautiful and curled, but your outer corner eyelashes will get BENT. As well as this, if you use good eyelash curlers like the ones I have, it is hard to unbend the bend you have created. #firstworldbeautyproblems

4.The danger of using a long handled make up brush and a hand held compact

When I say compact I mean POWDER compact. I’m sure that at least one of you readers (of the three readers I get) has had this problem before. For example if you are blending your eyeshadow out holding a compact mirror, you may get that eye popping moment of panic when the pointy end of your brush gouges out a chunk of your powder because you are holding your brush too close to it. I have had this before with my NARS Laguna bronzer and this was my reaction:

5. Be careful if you have sensitive skin

My skin has always been quite sensitive. I’ve had to be careful what kinds of shower gels and soaps I’ve used in the past, but one thing I’ve noticed is that recently when applying concealer to my under eyes if I leave it on too long unblended it starts to STING. It may just be the Maybelline FIT Me concealer that I have been using for the past few months, I never used to get it with the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer. Cut to me desperately grabbing my make up brush to blend it out just to make sure my under eye skin doesn’t get burned off. Ah.

Have you made any make up revelations recently?

Any plans for Easter? Shopping by any chance?!

I hope you all have a LOVELY Easter,

Love from Roshni xxx

Lip Service

Good Morning all :D!

It’s that weird time of year where you aren’t quite sure what colours you can and cannot get away with. Rather than limit yourself to a few, why not just go for them all! I thought I’d give you a run down of the shades, brands and bullets that are socialising in the wild party that is my make up bag.

What I like to do is to mix these products, as layering can actually create some combinations that you would never have thought of, that work really well. I don’t mean like ombré lips like I’ve seen popping up all over Insta recently (beautiful but entirely impractical), but simply mixing two shades to create something that’s really unique.

I’ve collected my favourites and given them a mug shot and line up below:

At first glance you might think that the bottom 6 shades are more autumnal colours but when you consider I have darker skin these aren’t actually that intense shades for me. In fact at least two of the darker shades are nudes for me, so you get an insight into more realistic nudes than your typical pale pinky tones. DEEP BREATH ERRYONE…

How To Fake A Good Night’s Sleep

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I ran out of eye drops :(
Sorry I ran out of eye drops 🙁

Happy Sunday 🙂

I’m sure this post will resonate for a lot of you people who have been out last night and are feeling a bit worse for wear. If you’re like me when that happens you always feel like you want to drink all the orange juice in the world.

I thought I’d do a post on how to look awake when you feel FAR from it. There are a few handy tips that you can hold in your arsenal (not arse) to whip out on those days when you just feel BLEURGH.

  • Use a nude eyeliner on your waterline

A nude eyeliner will instantly make you look more awake, as it counteracts any redness or yellow tones in the whites of your eyes. It will brighten your eye area, and along with the second point below it will make you look much more wide awake. My favourite is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude £3.99.

  • Curl your eyelashes

Curling your eyelashes and applying mascara to the outer lashes will open your eyes up, making you feel much better about going outside and braving sunlight! Investing in a good eyelash curler will ensure that you see a difference straight away, which means that some days you will survive with just some clear mascara. You will probably know that my favourite is the Shu Uemura Eyelash curler £20.

  • Eyedrops

Eyedrops will not only make you look more awake, but you will most definitely feel it too. They will feel soothing and cool on the eye which will help you slowly get restored to Setting: ‘Human’. You can get eye drops specifically designed to brighten and make your eyes more sparkly, so it’s definitely worth keeping a few of these in your stash for those emergency mornings after. I like the Optrex Eyedrops £4.25, though I’m not sure how much they live up to the claim of  ‘sparkly’!

  • Use a CREAM blusher

Using a powder blusher, it can sit on the skin and look a tad dull and ruddy. I’ve found that using a cream blusher (ideally quite a bright pink colour) is best for making you look healthy and well rested. Just be careful not to use too much as generally they are quite pigmented! (Layering small amounts dabbed onto the apples of your cheeks will make sure you don’t end up looking like a clown). I like the Max Factor Creamy Blush in Soft Pink £6.99.

  • Use a highlighter

As well as using a cream blush, a cream based pearlescent highlighter is great for helping your skin to glow. I really like ‘Girl Meets Pearl’ from Benefit £24.50 . Using this, I twist the clicker twice and then swipe half of the circle with my ring finger and dab this along my cheekbones on one side, then use the second half for the other side of my face :). With this, don’t go close to your eye or this will attract attention to the wrong part of your face.

I hope this helps to ease you into Sunday afternoon!

March Beauty Wishlist!

Hello All 🙂

Today I’m going to round up the beauty products that are topping my wishlist for March, so far. There are a lot of items that I have my eye on, that if I’m honest with myself I just don’t need. This is why I add them to my wishlist so that I can stare at them and pine :).

I was thinking the other day about high end versus drug store products, and it struck me that in the majority of cases we probably do pay over the odds for the packaging and look of a product rather than the actual performance of the product itself.

I am guilty of this too, in particular watching I Covet Thee she showed how the Max Factor Creme Puff Blushes that were recently launched are amazing dupes for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blushes. The price difference here is around £25 – £30! Nonetheless, some of the products that are on this list will probably fall into this category, but I do believe there are still some that live up to their price in both appearance AND performance.

Here is a collage of the products I am drooling over this month:

march wishlist

I saw this Stila Magnificent Metals Foil Eyeshadow in a Youtube video by Kaushal Beauty and it looked so beautiful. It is essentially a foil that you pack onto the eyelid and it looks so shiny and striking. It’s pretty damn pricey but it doesn’t stop me looking at it numerous times! This is the kind of eyeshadow that you’d wear on a pretty glam night out, it’s definitely not a day time eyeshadow. The shade I’m lusting over is ‘Vintage Black Gold’ :).

This illuminator is an iridescent cool toned highlight, which would look amazing dabbed onto the cheekbones and brow bone. One thing I love about the tube is that it would last you ages, although its pricey I bet it would keep going for years!

BAD GAL LASH MASCARA (£17.50, click for link) –

This Benefit mascara has probably seen a massive dip in sales for Benefit recently simply due to the incredible popularity of ‘They’re Real’ and the brand spanking new ‘Roller Lash’ mascara launch. For me, I’ve used cheaper mascaras like the Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ but the Bad Gal Lash is 100% my most favourite.

CLARINS INSTANT LIGHT PERFECTOR (£15.80, click for link) –

One can never have too many lip products! I’ve heard Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup rave about these, pretty sure she had one of each colour! The rosey shade is the one I have my eye on, but again I don’t really feel like I can justify this kind of purchase. I really hate sticky lip glosses so from what I’ve heard about this they would be perfect.

BOBBI BROWN BRIGHTENING BRICK (£23.00, click for link) –

I think blushes might be the beauty product that I own the most of. This brightening brick isn’t all about glitter and shine, but illuminating the face (the parts that you want to) in a subtle and natural way :). I like the peach toned and pink toned blushes the most out of this range, and I’m sure you could use a smaller brush to pick out the highlighter colours.

The grand total for my March Wishlist isssss:

The Top 5 Beauty Instagrammers

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are having a lovely weekend so far AND a brilliant romantic Valentines day <3. It’s not the nicest weather today, am sitting looking outside and the sky is grey and it’s really chilly.

What better to browse while you have an afternoon cup of tea than my list of the top 5 Instagrammers for all things fashion and beauty :):

Here is the run down!

I LOVE scrolling through my Instagram feed and seeing a post from this account pop up. Most importantly, although they post great photos of make up looks and close ups, they post short vines of how to certain make up looks. Check out their account to see brilliant smokey eyes, bold lips and making drawing eyeliner seem like a piece of cake!

The creators of the infamous Real Techniques make up brushes, Sam and Nic Chapman have a great Instagram account where they post pictures of looks they have worn to awards dos or press releases, updates on their brushes line and general VERY IMPORTANT beauty news. Make sure you are following so you don’t miss out on anything!

I found sarahlovsmakeup just by browsing the photos section, and I love the clean, minimalist photos that she puts up. She also has a brilliant blog that matches this theme (very VDM if you ask me). I really like the way she lays out her photos and I take a lot of inspiration from accounts like this, where you think ‘ooh that looks cool’, and try and imitate it! Also, she is gorgeous and does her own make up fabulously :).

I’m going to be honest here and say that I love Amelia, but I can’t watch her videos because I find her voice a little grating. I’m sorry if that’s harsh but it doesn’t take away from the fact that she is a brilliant blogger, she gives a great insight into high end beauty and fashion (because she looks like she’s mega rich!). She infamously uses little snippets of tape to help her keep her eye make up clean, so essentially she is just a normal girl with an abnormally overwhelming impulsion to hoard make up (I think there are many that suffer from this).

Ever since ordering my Lorac Pro palette, I am truly converted to their formulas and this Instagram account brings you all the news in their product range, but also great close ups and collaborations with bloggers and make up artists to showcase their make up. However, when pay day hits it can be quite dangerous browsing their photos as it can get you when you are most vulnerable and able to make several large ‘investments’, shall we call them!

That sums up my top 5 beauty Instagrammers, don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram @snosh90, leave a comment with your account name so I can expand this list to top 10, 20 or 30!

Thank you for reading 🙂

Nail the Heart Look – Valentines Day Nails

Hello Everyone!

Here is a simple look for valentines day, that puts a little spin on your usual French Manicure…

be patient with the heart...
be patient with the heart…

For this look, essentially it is created using a few layered polishes.

Firstly, a pale pink base coat, with white french tips, glitter over these and a little red heart on the ring finger (done delicately with a pointy nail brush).

This can be a bit fiddly, but if you are patient and you aren’t in a rush then taking your time will really help keep this look neat.

These are the products that I used:

yeah…that’s a fluffy hoody

I really like the glitter on the tips, which is an ideal way to make your french manicure look a bit more sparkly and feminine!

Here are a few more pictures to show the details:

This was BEFORE applying the glitter top coat:

What are your favourite nail looks to wear on Valentines Day?!
