The Concealer I Wish I Discovered Ages Ago…

I don’t tend to stray from concealer to concealer, I find what I like and then I stay put. But there are things that really put me off – concealers that crease, bad packaging and the wrong undertones. Usually, awkward packaging is something I can get over/get around, but after being on my second tube of the Maybelline FIT Me concealer, I had had enough! *stomps on the ground*

It is your normal twisty open tube with a doe foot applicator, all normal nothing to see here. But when you open the tube and pull the applicator out, some of the product collects at the top of the tube where the opening is and this happens EACH TIME YOU USE IT. It ends up getting so messy it’s unusable and impossible to travel with. It was only when I leapt into the Alternative Concealers Pool where I discovered that there are usually much better options for you skin (and your patience).

Dream Sun Bronzer – A bit of a disappointment…

During a venture to Boots not long ago, I stumbled across a product that I thought would change my blush/bronzer game forever!

I am a big fan of multi tasking products as they save so much space, time and effort and they happen to be great for travelling. So imagine my glee when I saw the Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzer and Blush in one  which looked right up my street.

I loved the idea that in summer when it’s all sunny and colourful I could just dip a brush into this pan, swirl it around and get the perfect mix of blush and bronzer to get a bit of a summer glow. The shade I bought was ‘Golden Tropics’ which was quite a light bronzer powder with a pretty pastel pink blush section in it.

Dream Sun Bronzer - Golden Tropics

This has a screw on lid which I thought was quite a good touch – sometimes compacts like this just have a weak plastic cover that you push onto them which can often break, but this one was a bit more sturdy.

Moving onto the actual powder itself, this bloody stinks. It has SUCH a strong smell, like really intense parma violets (which I happen to hate the smell of). In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the smell actually puts me off using it and makes it an even clearer point to me, that this is a product which has perfume in it.

So, if this compact had a really good colour pay off or something like that, I MIGHT be able to give it a second chance. Most disappointingly, this product has a serious lack of colour and lasting pigment. I tried to swatch this for you guys a good two – three times and couldn’t get a very good picture to show you:

Dream Sun Bronzer 3

You can see from the above picture that the most pigmented part of this compact is the blush, the bronzer is neither here nor there. This bronzer and blush contains shimmer throughout the whole thing as well, so if you are after something more matte stay away from this. There is another shade of this bronzing compact available (a darker one) but I’m unconvinced whether this would really change my opinion of it.

In the pan this looks REALLY nice, but unfortunately that’s as far as it goes :(.

Dream Sun Bronzer 2

Have you tried any good bronzer/blush compacts that you can recommend? That don’t stink? Haha!

The Best Concealer Combo Ever

For some parts of my make up routine, there are some staple products that have been on the bill for a very long time – not the stars of the show, but ever present supporting acts that are the ones holding up the whole thing.

The two concealers I want to show my respect for are the Maybelline Anti Age Eraser Eye concealer and the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. *no don’t worry this isn’t an ad, these are the two concealers that have lived in my make up drawers for a very long time!* With concealers, I’d say these are part of your make up routine where if you find the right products for the job, you don’t really chop and change them too much. This is why I’ve found what I like and I’ve stuck to it!

concealers

The Maybelline Anti Age Eraser Eye concealer is a little twist up concealer that only costs around £5.99! This is such a bargain and it lasts forever. The shade I use is ‘Nude’ I think, because this is the darkest shade that they do. They only really have three shades, but the one I use it perfect for highlighting and concealing.

This concealer has a little sponge tip applicator – I have heard a lot of people saying that they hate the little sponge applicator saying that it is unhygienic and harbours germs, but I’m not that bothered about the sponge. If anything, it’s only me that uses it so why would it be a problem?! I don’t use the sponge to blend it out, I just use my usual Real Techniques contour brush to gently dab the concealer into a flawless layer.

The thing I liked most about this concealer is that once you have set it with a powder it doesn’t budge. The powder I use is amazing and pretty affordable – it’s the Revlon photo ready powder.

The Maybelline Fit Me in the shade 20 is very good for adding a bit more coverage. I tend to layer these two because the combination makes my concealer last a lot longer and it brightens the area a lot more than just using one on its own. All I need to do with these two is to apply the Eraser Eye concealer via the sponge tip and then smooth over a small amount of the Fit Me concealer, then dab it all out with the contour brush. After this, setting with a light dusting (lol sounds like baking) of the Revlon powder means your concealer will last ALL DAY. WINNING.

What are your favourite concealers?

Happy Easter everyone!

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Review

mac false lashes

Hello everybody!

I had this little MAC mini False Lashes Extreme Black mascara sitting in my Muji drawers for around a month before I realised I should really try it, as I’ve never had a MAC mascara before!

I’m a bit of a mascara addict…I tend to have a few open at the same time (sometimes they are better once they have dried up a bit!). My favourites at the moment are the Lash Sensational which I’ve mentioned more times than I’ve had Yazoo (which is a lot, chocolate). The products I tend to get the most from MAC are blushes, eyeshadows, eyeliners and lipsticks…I’d never even thought of trying a mascara from MAC simply because the drugstore do such good mascaras pennies in comparison.

The MAC False Lashes macara has a big fat brush – normally I would love this kind of mascara, but the more recent ones I have tried use more plastick-y brushes that are thinner.

mac false lashes extreme black 1

The formula is quite thin – I’m not sure if this is because it was a mini rather than a full size but I found that there wasn’t much in there! The fat brush probably took us most of the space in there lol. When I actually used the mascara, it was best for lengthening and separating rather than any volume. If they are aiming for an actual false lash effect, they are getting it bang on for length but I find with false lashes you get volume that you really can’t get with a basic mascara.

false lashes extreme black

This formula seemed quite dry – as you know there wasn’t much actual mascara in the mini that I had. I know that I wouldn’t bother getting a full size – when you can get two better drugstore mascaras for the price of one MAC mascara I don’t think it’s worth it!

What do you guys think, have you tried the MAC False Lashes Extreme Black mascara?

Thanks for reading 🙂

Benefit’s Roller Lash Mascara – Review

Hi Everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great weekend before real life starts again…(aka work)! One of my Christmas presents was a dinky little sample of the Benefit Roller Lash mascara, which I’m reviewing for you today (my sister Anisha bought it for me, she wanted to be included in the post and she’s making me a cup of tea so I think that’s a good deal).

My mascara relationships have been pretty stable throughout most of my make up life and I can almost reel off the mascaras like an exes list. Firstly, in my teen years my go to was Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash, then I went to the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, then the Max Factor False Lash Effect. As I moved into my twenties I went onto the Soap & Glory Thick & Fast (which is way better than you’d expect) and since then I’ve always loved the Maybelline Lash Sensationalyou can read my review of that here!

The Benefit Roller Lash claims to ‘curl and lengthen’ using it’s Hook ‘n’ Roll brush…this brush is thin and long and looks pretty ordinary. I was surprised by how much it does actually lengthen. If you are looking for volume then I don’t think this is the mascara for you – I am lucky and have quite thickish lashes anyway so this isn’t a problem for me!

Benefit Roller Lash

Compared to the Lash Sensational, the brush is much thinner and I’m not entirely sure where the Hook and Roll aspects of it are!

As you can see from the before and after picture above, this mascara is great for lengthening and it’s very pigmented :). It actually performs very well on lower lashes as well, adding fibres and coating them thinly so that it’s not clumpy.

I think I would buy a full size version of this when my current mascara runs out (though I have a habit of having more than one on the go, oops). I’m not a massive fan of the packaging, though this is only the mini. The pastel pink doesn’t stand out much on the black background but I guess the test is of the product itself!

Have you guys tried the Roller Lash mascara? What did you think?

Thanks for reading guys 🙂

Maybelline Master Ink Liquid Eyeliners

Hello everyone!

I was on the hunt for a new liquid eyeliner after using up my current one. I was in Boots and walked past the Maybelline counter…picking up a trusty Lash Sensational, the Master Ink eyeliners caught my eye.

I was looking for a good, pigmented eyeliner and I was pleased to see they had a Matte eyeliner AND a black gold glitter one which was perfect for the make up I planned to do at my work Xmas do!

eyelinersmaybelline

These sounded and looked so great, I was hopeful that they would live up to my expectations. The matte liner is wet and fabulously pigmented. With a matte liner, I was worried that it would end up looking a bit ashy but it doesn’t in the slightest. It’s not the most hard wearing eyeliner but if you leave it alone while it dries it lasts well enough.

The nib is very thin and easy to manipulate – doing a cat flick isn’t the easiest thing but practice will make perfect! That’s what I’m telling myself anyway…

The glitter eyeliner is lovely because it’s not just gold glitter – it’s black gold so you can use this on it’s own! I love the way this looks – the glitter is a slightly yellowy gold but it’s really beautiful. It adds just the right amount of sparkle and shimmer across the lid!

Here is a swatch of both of them side by side:

maybelline master ink swatch

The black gold one is my favourite for special occasions but the matte version is still perfect for everyday!

I’m so chuffed with these and I think I’ll be repurchasing the matte one 🙂

I hope you’re all having a great Christmas so far!

Keep your eyes peeled for the third week of my Body Shop Advent Calendar!

Thanks for reading everyone,

Why I’m Obsessed with Instagram…

If anyone follows me on Instagram, they’ll know that I quite like it. I post a lot and I usually go on it around 2 – 3 times a day. Go through my feed and double tap on anything that takes my fancy, it’s such an EASY way to explore photography and it fits right into our convenient, time limited day to day lifestyles.

It gives you the opportunity to experiment with photography and you don’t even need a big fancy camera in order to do it – I find my iPhone 6s camera is just right.

IMG_7606

One of my favourite things about Instagram is when you come across a great account that shows sped up make up tutorials. Make up feeds are my favourite kind to browse through and I’ve tried my hand at some close up pictures too but am still practising! For those I tend to ignore my front camera and use a mirror so that I can use my back camera instead which is much much better quality.

I like following large brands Instagram accounts because it’s a great way of finding out what their newest products and sale offers are – some of my favourites are Essie, Bombay Hair, Nars, Benefit and Make Up Geek (which I’ve just heard that you can get on Beauty Bay!).

Have you guys got any favourite Instagram accounts you can recommend following? 🙂

My Most Recent Repurchases

There are usually a few ‘holy grail’ make up products that hang around the depths of my dressing table – but recently there have been a few things that I have repurchased. I only repurchase things if I REALLY like them. I mean, really. I am not a second chancer, or a ooh it might have changed-er, I am seriously brutal.

The things I have repurchased most recently are a mix of skin care and make up – and to me, they are essentials that will stay on my dressing table for a very long time!

repurchase

When it comes to skin care, two of my favourite products are Nivea Creme and the Simple Kind to Eyes Make Up Remover. Nivea Creme is something my family have used always – I have always seen my mum use it – but I don’t use it on my whole face. The only thing I use this for is to moisturise my lips and maybe on areas of dry skin. It’s a very thick moisturiser and is great if you want something to moisturise that will last for a very long time.

The Simple Make Up Remover I have been using for the past 5 years or so…I can’t tell you how many of these bottles I’ve gone through! This stuff is really amazing, it helps to get off mascara so well (on a scale of mascaras I’d say it’s great from a Benefit Bad Gal Lash to a Maybelline Lash Sensational!).

For make up, I actually have TWO concealers – I know, it’s probably a bit much. The first one is the Maybelline Anti Age Eraser Eye concealer, which is one of the best concealers I have ever used! It’s not even very expensive, it has a foam dome shaped applicator which I don’t mind but a lot of people have posted hacks of how to get it off. I love this – it’s medium coverage I’d say but it feels so light and it blends like a dream. The next concealer I repurchased is this Maybelline FIT Me in the shade 20. I use this every day on top of the Anti Age for just a touch more coverage..it’s so good!

Lastly, I have something that I think I have repurchased at least three times. This is the Soap & Glory Brow Archery – which is an eyebrow pencil that has a spoolie on one end and an ashy toned brown pencil on the other. It’s a twist up, which I love and the shade I have is called ‘Hot Chocolate’. The spoolie is genius – and these last a very long time!

So that’s my run down of the things I’ve repurchased the most recently, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading!

Thanks,

Roshni 🙂 xxx

5 Essential Products for Great Looking Eyeshadow

Make up tutorials are so popular now, with the rise of youtube and blogging there are so many professional looking and glamorous looks available for people to try.

I was thinking about the things that I use when I am doing a tutorial or even just make up on myself and I realised there are a few things that kind of make an essential kit for creating great eyeshadow looks!

I have narrowed this ‘essentials kit’ down to 5 things! (I know, well done me!).

**Look how well co-ordinated they all are**:

5ITEMSFORGOODEYESHADOW

GOING BACK TO BASICS:

USE A PRIMER

Using a primer will give you an blank canvas and an even base to layer your eyeshadows over. I now do this step whenever I am doing an intense or matte eyeshadow look – especially because it helps to even out any veins or unwanted red tones on your eyelids. My favourite to use isn’t actually a ‘primer’ but a paint pot from MAC (aptly named, Painterly). It’s a great, cool toned taupe grey shade (this doesn’t sound that nice but it works really well as a primer!). I’ll put in a close up picture below 🙂

BUY A GOOD CREAM EYESHADOW

For those days where you want a bit of colour or something something on the lids, don’t spend half an hour faffing about with eyeshadow if you don’t want to. Invest in a good long lasting cream eyeshadow (now this doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot!) The one I love the most is the Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in ‘On and On Bronze’. Loads of bloggers have raved about this shade and the formula is one of the best that I’ve tried! This doesn’t crease, which is amazing, and it lasts for aaaaages on the lid.

creameyeshadow

GET A DARK BROWN SHADOW STICK

If you are in a hurry getting ready to go out or go to work but you need to give your make up a lift, get a simple dark brown eyeshadow stick. Using one of these you can smudge it along your upper (and lower if you are going for an evening even) lash line and using a fluffy brush to blend this out a bit. This helps to add a touch of definition and a bit of smokiness, it’s a great way to update your make up and add something different. I love the Laura Mercier Cocoa Caviar Stick :).

GET A GOOD PALETTE WITH MATTE SHADOWS

The Lorac Pro Palette pictured below is my go to palette when I want to create a good day time eyeshadow look, but it’s also got some great eyeshadows for evening. When you get a good palette with great quality matte eyeshadows it means you have a myriad (a lot) of eyeshadow looks waiting to be created. This palette has a brilliant pigmented black shade which can be pressed into the crease for an intense smokey eye, or you can use an angled liner brush to push it into the lower lash line.

loracpro

INVEST IN YOUR PERFECT TRANSITION COLOUR

Before starting on a layered eyeshadow look, or a smokey eye, I’d definitely recommend using a transition colour. This doesn’t have to be the exact same colour as the eyeshadows you are using but it is a great base layer for the colour going in your crease. I’ll let you in on a little secret…

narslaguna

Bronzers are perfect transition colours! If they are good enough for contour, they are good enough to use in the crease for a transition colour. The one I love using is NARS Laguna bronzer, which is mostly matte but has a touch of shimmer. It’s a great warm brown, which helps other eyeshadows blend into it with a nice gradient. Either I’ll use Laguna OR I’ll reach for the Taupe shade in the Lorac Pro Palette!

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my tips for getting the best eyeshadow look you can. Please feel free to leave me a comment, or click through to my Blog Lovin’ and follow me there :).

Thank you for reading and have a great week ahead!

June Favourites!

I know that June is well and truly done with but I thought it had been a while (approximately a month I believe) since I’ve done a good ol’ Monthly Favourites post!

There are four things in particular that I’ve been loving in June, which are mostly make up item – surprise, surprise

JUNFAVOURITES

After a pretty tough month with a lot going on there is one product that has saved my eye bags from turning into Tesco Bags for Life. I’ve been LOVING the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age ‘Eraser Eye’ concealer in the shade Nude. It’s a small tube of concealer with a weird puffy applicator at the top. Please note I had to turn the clicky thing around 100 times in order to get the first bit of product out but after that I was sold.

The coverage isn’t very high, BUT you don’t need it. It creates luminosity, making your eye area appear brighter and more awake, it does settle into lines a little bit but setting with a teensy bit of powder soon sorts this out. The applicator is nice as well, I tend to dab this on in an upside down triangle shape under my eyes (Thanks to Kaushal Beauty for that tip, check our her Youtube videos here!) and then blend out with a Real Techniques Contour Brush.

maybellineerasereye

Next I’ve been obsessed with my most recent MAC purchase. I have been wanting this product for a very long time, it is MAC’s Soft & Gentle Mineralise Skin Finish. This may possibly be the most beautiful highlighter I have ever seen! It is pretty flashy, so if you are using this day to day then please have a gentle hand! I love using this as a brow highlight, it also makes a pretty beautiful eyeshadow so it’s a bloody versatile little pot of gold.

macsoftandgentle

macsoftandgentle2

Next, I have been loving filling in my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in Ebony . This is one of those products where you have to be VERY light handed, also it helps to dab most of the product off in the lid before applying to the brows. Brushing through your brows with a spoolie first helps get the most defined brows, and I usually start at the end of the brow and slowly do gentle strokes with an angled brush like a MAC 263.

anastasiadipbrow

LASTLY! I have been really liking using the By Terry Ombre Blackstar (why does autocorrect put that as Backstair?!), the shade I have is called Misty Rock which has been RAVED about over tinternet. This is the most beautiful shimmery amethyst colour and it’s perfect for applying straight on the eyelid and then just blending out the edges. The glitter from this has true staying power, the consistency of the crayon is really soft and creamy so it blends LIKE A FRIVOLOUS DREAM.
