Nyx Liquid Suede Matte Lipsticks – A Revelation!

Oh myyy goodness – I have been so excited to review these products!

A common theme throughout the past few weeks is that things I have seen popping up on my Instagram feed have been making their way into my shopping basket, be it physical or virtual (and I have paid for them, no pilfering going on around here).

The two shades I picked up in the Nyx Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks are beautiful. I bought the shades Soft Spoken and Vintage. Soft Spoken is a beautiful pinky brown and Vintage is a more deep 90’s brown which is AMAZING. Vintage in particular is so on trend that it almost pains me. Expect to see a lot of Instagram pics of these filling up my feed!

I already love both of these liquid lipsticks and everything about them is perfect…

Nyx Liquid Suede Lipsticks

NYX LIQUID SUEDE LIPSTICK SWATCHES SOFT SPOKEN VINTAGE

They are pretty affordable – you can buy these for £6.50 and you get a lot for your money. The formula of the liquid lipsticks is thick and velvety, they apply really nicely because the doe foot applicator is just the right shape to outline and fill in your lips really neatly. *not so fun fact, I thought Doe Foot was actually a specific name for the applicator like Dauphort but then I realised in a D’oh moment*

Soft Spoken Nyx Liquid Suede Lipstick

The staying power of these liquid lipsticks is insane. I wore Soft Spoken ALL day today and although I could feel my lips become a tiny bit drier than usual it wasn’t anywhere near uncomfortable. I drank several teas (lol) and although I saw some product come off onto the mug like a trendy half smile, you couldn’t tell from looking at me that any had moved from my lips.

Vintage Nyx Liquid Suede Lipstick

I think if you are buying one of these I would always opt for the more nude shades where it doesn’t matter if it’s not crisp round the edges. They have bright reds and purples within this range but I’m not sure this formula is the best way to wear those colours.

I’m really happy with these liquid lipsticks and I can’t wait to wear them all the time!

Who started the Matte Revolution?!

So, if you are aware of any beauty or make up trends you will know that the biggest trend of this year so far is matte lips. In fact, I think it’s possible that matte anything is all the rage at the moment! This to me is a pretty weird trend and I think that Kylie Jenner is the root cause of it all.

You’ll all know this now, Kylie Jenner had cosmetic improvements to her face and lips to basically, look like a completely different (and to her, more beautiful) person. This change she made has spawned a business idea – it was furled up into a little roll, put into the barrel of a gun and blown into the beauty arena with tremendous power. We all know the Kardashian-Jenners are all into money: making money, spending money and talking about money.

So it all makes sense that the big business Kylie has started to build is all about matte lips!

nude matte revolution post

The weird thing I find about matte lips as a trend is that I haven’t seen THAT much of it on the runways. (I may have been missing something here, if I have someone please enlighten me)

Even weirder, I think it’s actually a pretty uncomfortable beauty trend. Matte lips are not comfortable to wear.

They are drying, they showcase the coolest undertones (some of which are so sepia toned they just look dead) and it can require a lot of effort for day to day. We aren’t like the Kardashians and we don’t have people to come blow dry our hair, or apply our make up to go to the shops lol.

Yet, Kylie’s cottoned on to the power of social and the press and she has managed to create Kylie Lip Kits that consist of a lip liner and a matte liquid lipstick in nude colours that are selling out everywhere! Other brands have pre-empted this and seen the opportunity – right off the top of my head I can name Kat Von D, Nyx, Colourpop, LA Girl, Revlon and Stila as brands that have created matte lip options to let you nail this trend affordably. **Shown above are the NYX Liquid Suedes, if you want to take a look you can buy them here, I will be reviewing them for you soon**

This was kind of a little post to discuss the trend and how weird it is – it’s not a rant, it’s not a suggestion, it’s more of a – ‘look how powerful trends can be when you have access to the right tools, and means discussion’.

What are your thoughts on the matte lips trend? Do you like it? Do you wear it?

P.S. I’m not saying I won’t try it because I will – even if it means investing in tonnes of moisturising lip balms…

2016 Make Up Trend Predictions!

IT’S OFFICIAL!!!

It’s 2016 and it feels bloody weird. It’s also my birthday this month which feels double weird – I’m going to be 26 (insert blushing shocked whatsapp face).

I wanted to show you my predictions for the make up trends that will be big this year – then at the end of the year I can see whether I was right or not! In 2015 there were lots of new make up launches…primers, mascaras and new fangled liquid lipsticks. Being a keen user of Instagram I can show you what I think what looks will be big this year and how to get them :).

GLITTER ALL ROUND –

glitter shadow

Eyeshadow looks featuring glitter and glitter eyeliners have been big in the second half of this year. Heck, even glitter BEARDS have taken off! This is a great easy way to build a party look or a make up look for a special occasion – a simple matte eyeshadow blended into the crease with a glitter eyeliner is a quick way to create a chic make up look.

Or if you’re looking for something more dramatic you could use a glitter pigment or loose glitter to press onto your eyelids…you can use a gentle make up glue or eyeshadow primer for the glitter to stick to. If you are using an eyeshadow with glitter particles in it you could spray your eyeshadow brush with a setting spray to wet the brush and make the pigment stronger.

MATTE LIPS –

Matte lipstick is having a BIG thing now. This is partly down to the likes of Kylie Jenner pumping up her lips and applying what seems to be a nude paint on them (not entirely sure why this is so popular) but I think this is a trend that is here to stay.

Overlining your lips will help to make them look larger and using a matte liquid lipstick with a lighter lipstick patted onto the centre of the bottom lip will help to create this look.

I think these trends are gonna be big through the whole of this year 🙂

What make up trends do you think will be popular this year?

A ‘Match’ Made In Heaven – sorry…

OK I won’t do any more world cup puns. I could, but I won’t.

We are finally experiencing a flash of summer in the UK, and boy do we have to make the most of it. It might be a long time until we see that fiery ball of goodness again! Sorry, I really do mean the sun. So, onto a combination that was engineered by the gods for summertime. The combination I am talking about here is a bold pink lip, and dewy sun kissed skin. The latter for me is in reach, as it is built into my genetics 🙂 (put simply, I am brown).

So first, the bold lip:

I have heard rave reviews about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks, and I have another one here for you to add to the mix. The shade I went for was Olé Flamingo (great name), which is a brilliant fuchsia. With cool blue undertones, it is also great to make teeth look whiter. The formula was surprising, it truly feels like velvet (but not so much it drags as you apply).

It is easily buildable, and the applicator means that you can get a really clean edge. It has been reviewed to be very long lasting, but what I found useful is that although you want it to stay put, if you apply hastily you can still clean up with a cotton bud around the corners and not end up looking like a lipstick smeared clown.

The pigment it packs is seriously crazy, but I think I would agree with Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup, that the formula lends itself best to the bold shades rather than the nude, ‘everyday’ hues. This will be my go-to for a summer evening look :).

Now, for the dewy skin:

I am a big fan of the Bourjois Healthy Mix Gel Based Foundation (I mix a blob of shade 55 and 56, why don’t they do .5’s?!). However, if you don’t want such heavy coverage for summer Happy Light is a good way to go, I would say. Confusingly, shade 54 is pretty good for me (I think this is the darkest it goes), and it is a lot more fluid and sheer than the Healthy Mix. It blends nicely with a Real Techniques Stippling Brush, and gives a really nice dewy finish. I have to say I was slightly disappointed by the strong orange undertone, but I think this would be OK once concealer etc are finished.

I will give an update on this after a week or so of use, so I can let you know how it lasts throughout the day. I am expecting it to wear throughout a hot working day, but for me it will be having strong competition with the Garnier Miracle Skin, which I have been wearing daily and loving. With Miracle Skin, even after work, my skin tone looks even and clear, so Happy Light has a lot to live up to!

If I wear this out, I’ll update this post with a picture so you can see what it looks like :). Happy Summer!

AAAAAAAND here is the update, recently wore this look out for my sister’s birthday:
