MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Review!!

MAC Prep & Prime

I’m not usually one to use a primer – my skin doesn’t tend to eat make up up which is a good thing, but in one of my more recent MAC mini hauls I received a little sample of the MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base. My sister had mentioned that she’d used it before but I imagine just from a sample like mine was.

I haven’t really used primer for foundation or bases as I don’t REALLY need it but I had wondered whether it made any difference!

As it’s become hotter in the summer months in the UK, of all places where I lose foundation/makeup it tends to be the forehead and mouth area. So I thought it was time to try this Prep + Prime sample!

The Battle of the Highlighters

Battle of the Highlighters

A few years ago, if someone said I’d be highlighting my face I’d be thinking of something neon pink that belongs in the stationary drawer. Fast forward to 2016 and highlighting is a vital step in most make up wearer’s routines.

When choosing your highlighter I would consider the following things:

  • The formula – cream or powder?
  • The glitteriness – do you want something subtle or IN YO FACE
  • How much you want to spend
  • Whether you want it to be warm toned or cool toned

These sound like scary decisions but actually it’s pretty simple – there are so many affordable highlighters nowadays that it doesn’t have to be a decision that bursts the seams of your purse *great mental image there*

My top picks are in the picture above!

For a iridescent but long lasting highlight I use the Benefit Girl Meets Pearl liquid highlighter which looks like a unicorns barfed it up (by that I mean it looks FABULOUS) – it’s more a cool toned lilac filled highlighter that you can just dab along the high points of your cheeks and then dot down the centre of your nose if you like. This is a click up dispenser bottle and this is a great, tidy way of using it.

For a more subtle highlight that costs a little more (but you get contour too) you could go to Charlotte Tilbury and opt for the Filmstar Bronze and Glow. This medium toned highlight in the duo is SO finely milled it’s really beautiful. Sometimes I wonder if the highlight is TOO finely milled but maybe it’s just me who wants to look like a glitter ball. Lol.

Finally, for the most glitzy highlight you can go for the MAC Soft and Gentle Mineralise Skin Finish. This is probably my favourite highlighter and in my mind I guess I call it the ‘Going Out Highlighter’ lol. The glittery particles in this are larger than other highlights but this still creates a gorgeous gold toned glow on your cheekbones when applied with a feathery make up brush.

What’s your favourite highlighter?

A Mini MAC Haul!

Hello Guys!

Happy Friday 🙂

I was lucky enough to get a MAC gift card at Christmas (which feels ages ago I know) but I decided that now was the time to spend it so I bought a couple of items I’d had my eye on for a while.

Mini MAC Haul

Sometimes I love buying stuff from MAC and sometimes I think ‘Well, you’re expensive for what you are’. Often it’s possible you could nip to Boots and get something just as good, but there’s something about the way that MAC is packaged, marketed and presented that just means it’s in such high demand – and reputation IS everything after all (hah, not).

One of the main things I wanted to get using my gift card was the MAC Strobe Cream. Usually when buying from more expensive make up stores I’ll try to limit myself to multitasking products and strobe cream is definitely one of those things. You can mix strobe cream into your foundation to give you an extra glow or you could use it on it’s own as a beautiful Unicorn colour highlight – it’s like fairy dust in a tube.

I bought the travel size which was £10, I placed my order online as well for ultimate ease and no wading through teenagers huddling around the lipstick stands *thumbs up all round*

MAC Strobe Cream

You can see the gorgeous purpley/lilac reflection off the explosion that happened in the top of the cap! Lol I just used that to highlight my arm, as you do (I just wanted to see what it looked like, there was quite a lot so my whole arm was on fleek).

This will probably last me forever which is why I didn’t think it was necessary to buy the full size – travel size is enough for me!

The second thing I got was this gorgeous mini eyeshadow palette which is the Dusky Rose x 9 palette. I’m not sure if these are limited edition or not but they are advertising them for £25 at the moment, which I think is down from £30.

MAC Dusky Rose Times Nine 1

MAC Dusky Rose Palette 1

These are probably at least half the size of a normal MAC pan, which I don’t think is clear from the website but it definitely is a mini version, like travel size.

These shadows are gorgeous and really versatile – if you think about it I could totally use these for eyebrows and even for highlight if I wanted to.

I have swatched all the shades below so take a look!

MAC Eyeshadow Palette Dusky Rose - Swatches!

I haven’t used this palette yet but I can’t wait to – let me know if you want to see me create a look with this!

With the order came a free Prep and Prime sample which I also can’t wait to use – it’s so diddy it’s perfect for travel, this is definitely a lil travel sized haul!!

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading,

MAC False Lashes Extreme Black Review

mac false lashes

Hello everybody!

I had this little MAC mini False Lashes Extreme Black mascara sitting in my Muji drawers for around a month before I realised I should really try it, as I’ve never had a MAC mascara before!

I’m a bit of a mascara addict…I tend to have a few open at the same time (sometimes they are better once they have dried up a bit!). My favourites at the moment are the Lash Sensational which I’ve mentioned more times than I’ve had Yazoo (which is a lot, chocolate). The products I tend to get the most from MAC are blushes, eyeshadows, eyeliners and lipsticks…I’d never even thought of trying a mascara from MAC simply because the drugstore do such good mascaras pennies in comparison.

The MAC False Lashes macara has a big fat brush – normally I would love this kind of mascara, but the more recent ones I have tried use more plastick-y brushes that are thinner.

The formula is quite thin – I’m not sure if this is because it was a mini rather than a full size but I found that there wasn’t much in there! The fat brush probably took us most of the space in there lol. When I actually used the mascara, it was best for lengthening and separating rather than any volume. If they are aiming for an actual false lash effect, they are getting it bang on for length but I find with false lashes you get volume that you really can’t get with a basic mascara.

This formula seemed quite dry – as you know there wasn’t much actual mascara in the mini that I had. I know that I wouldn’t bother getting a full size – when you can get two better drugstore mascaras for the price of one MAC mascara I don’t think it’s worth it!

What do you guys think, have you tried the MAC False Lashes Extreme Black mascara?

Thanks for reading 🙂

Make Up Bag Essentials Part 2…

Hey Everyone!

So after completing my part 1 of the top essentials to have in your make up bag, NOW we move onto the second round :). This will include my favourite options for blusher, bronzer, highlighters and eyeliners!

If you select a product from each section in this post and my first post, you should have a pretty versatile make up kit which will see you through day time make up looks and it’s the kind of kit that’s perfect for someone just starting out with make up!

Let’s crack on with my favourite selection of…

BLUSHERS –

blusher

My first few blushes were actually MAC blushes, my favourites first of all were Mocha which is a dark browny pink which is very flattering…and MAC Dainty which is a mineralize blush with speckles of gold shimmer in it!

MAC blushes are quite pricey, so if you are looking for something versatile and a reasonable price you could try some of the Max Factor blushes, such as the Creme Puff powder blushes. If you’re a bit braver you could try the Max Factor cream blushes, which actually are really easy to use and last a really long time! The picture above shows you my favourite ever blush – the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush is beautiful – completely matte, easily buildable and the most flattering pink you will ever find!

blushers

BRONZERS –

My ultimate favourite bronzer is the NARS Laguna, which is pretty much a cult beauty blogger staple! However, if you are just starting out and are low on cash there are some great similar colour matches and alternatives. Be careful with bronzer colours that are too warm – these can look a bit too obvious on the face, so it might be easier to start with a cooler toned bronzer first :).

bronzers

For drugstore alternatives, you could try the Benefit Hoola Bronzer, which is one of the bronzers I tried when I first started out with Benefit products. It’s not too cool and not too warm, a light dusting of this over your hairline is a great way to bronze your face up in a subtle way.

Bourjois do an amazing bronzer which actually smells like chocolate! This is a brilliant bronzer to start off with, but if you are still a little scared of it you could opt for a bronze and blush combo where you can swirl both colours together lightly and use this just on the apples of the cheeks, like the Maybelline Dream Sun.

HIGHLIGHTERS –

I’d definitely advise that you try different texture highlighters such as creams and powders, so you know which type you like. My suggestion for you highlighter virgins out there is the Benefit Girl Meets Pearl, which is a nice easy twist up cream highlight. This is so easy to dab along the cheekbones and you can even use this with a little brush to apply on your brow arch too to create a lovely chic highlight.

However, I can’t leave out the MAC holy grail which is Soft & Gentle. This highlighter is the perfect irridescent gold, it’s a really finely milled powder which is great to dust on the high points of your face.

EYELINERS –

Last but not least, we move onto eyeliners! So I’d advise that kohl eyeliners are the easiest way to add some definition to your lash line – you can add a thin line along your upper or lower lash line (in the outer third) and use a small eyeshadow brush to blend this out. This is a great way to create a simple smokey eye! I love using the Bourjois Colorband Pencil which is a great value product.

For liquid eyeliner, I started out with the usual Barry M liquid liners, Soap & Glory and then L’Oréal Superliner. The liquid eyeliner I’m obsessing over at the moment is the Maybelline Master Ink Matte Eyeliner, which is A M A Z I N G!!! It is as it says, completely matte, which makes it a brilliantly black formula!

WOW that was a long post (sorry if you fell asleep half way through lol!)

I hope you enjoyed it, if you have any make up suggestions for me, let me know in the comments!

Love you all!

My Top Lipsticks with Swatches! MAC, Nyx, Topshop…

Hi everyone!

If I’ve been a bit quiet on the blogging front I apologise – things are pretty darn busy round these parts. Today I have a new video to bring to your attention! I was inspired by Kaushal Beauty to film my own Lip Swatch video which features my favourite lipsticks within my collection so you can see what they look like on, the formula/colour pay off etc.

I found her video really useful as it gave me an idea of what the lipsticks look like on brown skin tones – this will show you what kind of undertone the lipstick has (it could have a blue undertone which makes teeth look whiter, or an orange undertone which is slightly harder to pull off)

I hope you enjoy watching! I’m pretty proud of this video as I tried to edit it to music a bit!

🙂

Thanks for watching/reading my words that I write

Why I’m Obsessed with Instagram…

If anyone follows me on Instagram, they’ll know that I quite like it. I post a lot and I usually go on it around 2 – 3 times a day. Go through my feed and double tap on anything that takes my fancy, it’s such an EASY way to explore photography and it fits right into our convenient, time limited day to day lifestyles.

It gives you the opportunity to experiment with photography and you don’t even need a big fancy camera in order to do it – I find my iPhone 6s camera is just right.

IMG_7606

One of my favourite things about Instagram is when you come across a great account that shows sped up make up tutorials. Make up feeds are my favourite kind to browse through and I’ve tried my hand at some close up pictures too but am still practising! For those I tend to ignore my front camera and use a mirror so that I can use my back camera instead which is much much better quality.

I like following large brands Instagram accounts because it’s a great way of finding out what their newest products and sale offers are – some of my favourites are Essie, Bombay Hair, Nars, Benefit and Make Up Geek (which I’ve just heard that you can get on Beauty Bay!).

Have you guys got any favourite Instagram accounts you can recommend following? 🙂

What’s the big fuss about Allure magazine?!

A couple of weekends ago, I went to London on a lovely weekend to see my best friend from uni. When I’m travelling, one of my most favourite things to do is to curl up on an (empty either side) train seat with music, snacks and a good magazine. I was in W H Smith and decided to try a magazine I’d heard a lot of bloggers talking about – Allure!

I assumed this magazine might be around £3, so took it to the till happily perusing some chocolate at the same time (maltesers). I was shocked that it cost £4.80!!!! For a MAG A ZEEN. Wth.

allurepost

Anyway I decided to give it a chance, paid, ran to my train, sat in the wrong carriage, ran again and settled down with my music, Maltesers and Allure. I noticed that it didn’t have many adverts in it which was a really good start – one of the most annoying things when reading Elle or Vogue is just HOW much of it is filled with stupid adverts.

When I started reading further, I had the price of the magazine ringing in my ears. It was not worth it! I could have easily got the same amount of cultural words from a £2 Glamour. I didn’t find the articles particularly engaging or revolutionary, it was just a bit…blah.

A real shame, because I thought this would be one of those magazines where I also start raving about it and pining for a subscription.

For me, the best magazines for train travel are – Glamour, Look, Cosmo and Grazia!

Have any of you guys read Allure? Do you feel the same as me or do you love it?!

Thanks for reading everyone 🙂
