A ‘kind of’ repurchase has ignited a passion in my that I never thought would appear. A couple of years ago I spotted an Elizabeth Arden gift set on promotion and inside it there was a teeny sample sized tube of the Eight Hour Cream.
I was tempted so I ended up buying it and trying out the protectant as a lip balm – and KABLOOM my life was changed. (I feel like Gretchen Wieners trying to get a word to catch on).

As you know I had a Body Shop Advent Calendar at Christmas and I thought I would start the new year by running over the last few things I received after Christmas! This has been a lovely advent calendar to open, filled with great value products, perfect minis for going away and little surprises.
I’ve loved the unusual products the most – things like the Eye Gel, the little heart soaps and the Fuji Green Tea range which smells amaaazing!
Here I’ll now show you the last 6 days of the advent calendar taking us up to Christmas day! I can’t believe it’s 2016 now!
This was the surprise!! You think there’s only boxes up to the 24th but that had a SURPRISE box in for the 25th!! SUCH EXCITEMENT
Aaaaand a Christmassy red nail polishes rounds off the amazing set of goodies from this advent calendar!
In the last 6 days we had:
Honey Lip balm
Purple (think it’s blackberry) scented heart soap
Strawberry scented hand cream
Italian Summer Fig Perfume (not entirely sure what I think of this yet…)
Bright red nail polish!
I’m sad there will be no more advent calendar doors to open but I am excited for what is going to happen this year!
In the past two weeks in the UK it’s definitely felt a lot colder. This is the sign of winter edging it’s way nearer to us, which means soon the evenings will start to get darker and all of a sudden you’ll be craving things like soup and hot chocolate.
When we start to move into Autumn/Winter there are a few things that I do to change my skincare and beauty routine around, which I like to call the Winter Beauty Routine Edit.
I’ve included TEN things you can do to shift your beauty routine into 5th gear and keep your skin and make up looking and feeling great even when it’s cold and dark and gloomy!
Carry around at least 4 lip balms – lip balms are your friend as it moves towards winter – the harsh cold winds and increased use of heating can lead to dehydration leaving your mouth prone to cracking and dryness – EW.
End your shower with a burst of colder water on your hair – ending your shower with a luke warm to cold burst of water helps to flatten your follicles which makes your hair shinier. It can also help to reduce frizz!
Shower in the evening – this is more of a personal tip – basically if you hate getting up early, and hate the fact in winter it’s really dark when you get up, shower in the evening so you get optimum sleeping time!
Baths and bath bombs – This is where you add the luxury to your bath and skincare routine. Indulge in some splurging at Lush and order some bath bombs to treat your skin to a soak!
Once a week, use a body scrub – Although less people are seeing parts of your body, it doesn’t mean you have to forget about it! Use a good body scrub like the Soap & Glory Breakfast Scrub to keep your skin smooth and to buff away any dead skin cells – AGAIN, EW.
Use a good foot cream – I don’t really wanna have to explain this one but it’s similar to the point above and, oh TRIPLE EW.
Have a make up clear out– Take this as your chance to get rid of any manky old mascaras, any bacteria laden powders or dusty old lipsticks and clear them out! Use this time to refresh your make up collection for winter, remembering you want moisturising products – and you can experiment with plummier moodier colours if you are brave enough!
Invest in a good liquid eyeliner – The windier, rainier and more torrential the weather gets, the more your make up is vulnerable to attack on a daily basis. Investing in a good LONG LASTING liquid eyeliner will stop you looking like a panda!
Morrocanoil – This stuff is a god send! Smoothing a small amount of this through the ends of your hair is great for keeping hair in good condition during winter. My favourite way to use this is to warm a few drops in the palms of my hands for a few minutes and then hold the ends of my hair in my palm – the warmer the oil the better it will take to your hair (not like 100 degrees or anything!)
I hope you have found this useful to read as winter begins to knock at the seasonal front door like an unwelcome carol singer.

I was thinking about all the different new products that beauty bloggers review and new launches that are talked about, but I found myself thinking more of the items that we always end up coming back to. For me, there are key parts of my haircare and make up routine that haven’t changed in a very long time.
I don’t want these products to feel unloved and run away from home, so for once I’m going to shine a bit of lime light on them so we can rejoice in the splendour of THE HAIR AND BEAUTY SURVIVAL KIT.
Here is the survival kit that I’ve thrown together to give you inspiration for those days where you have the very basics at your fingertips:
To me, the most important part of this survival kit and the item I should mention first is the humble Tangle Teezer. I bought mine (in a fetching purple glitter finish) a good 3-4 years ago and it looks almost brand new! These things are life savers, when it comes to unruly hair that is knotty and temperamental. In particular, before I cut my hair short I really needed this, as when my hair was wet it used to get SO tangled. This reduces breakage and gently brush through tangles, which will in turn help your hair stay strong.
Then we have mascara, in particular my all time favourite is the Benefit Bad Gal Lash. Applying just a little mascara helps on those days when you are really tired, as it instantly opens your eyes up and makes you look more awake. Even if you aren’t wearing any other make up, just wearing a swipe of mascara will still make all the difference.
Right now, it is considered pretty much criminal to go out without having done your eyebrows. Obviously many people either can’t be bothered or simply don’t need to fill in their brows, but for me using an eyebrow pencil is a step that I wouldn’t miss out in a hurry.
Filling in your eyebrows helps to frame your face, and will help you look groomed and neat without having to spend too long getting them perfect. I love the Soap & Glory Brow Archery as this comes with a thin fine pencil on one side and a spoolie on the other to brush through particularly unruly brows.
This next item is pretty damn important to me in the mornings and it is the mighty concealer. For anyone who suffers from dark circles, like myself, this is going to be a staple in your make up kit. As well as helping to create a simple but clear base, you don’t have to go all out and use foundation, just dab and blend some concealer over any blemishes and under your eyes and you are good to go. The one I’m currently using is the Maybelline Fit Me concealer, which I really like :).
The last item doesn’t have to be the exact same as mine, but it is essentially a lip balm. If for some reason there is a freak accident and your make up bag gets lost, damaged or stolen by a racoon, lip balm is a great staple to have as it can act as a multi tasking groomer. You can use a slick of lip balm to keep lips moisturised, but you can also smooth a touch over your eyebrows to keep them in place.
One thing you can also do is apply a very small amount to your finger tips, and then smooth your eyelashes up repeatedly to make it look like you are wearing mascara, and open up your eyes. If you use something like Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream you can also use it to moisturise dry patches, but the one I am currently liking is the Eve Lom Kiss Mix which is a very intensive hydrating lip balm.
What are your hair and beauty essentials?
Thanks for reading 🙂

January has ZOOMED by, I can’t believe it’s February already! We are no longer in that weird limbo time after Christmas, it is actually getting light when I drive to work in the mornings and there are glimmers of Spring in the near distance.
There are a few beauty products that I have been loving so far (I know we are a good few days into February, but oh well) so I have decided to show you my January favourites today!
My lovely friend Lizzie bought me this make up bag for my birthday, and from pure coincidence I have been looking at a lot of Oliver Bonas items and really liking the look of them (also now I got this link but have spent way too long on the site).
This make up bag is great, it’s a compact size but you can fit a surprising amount of things in here. The zip is pretty sturdy, and a gorgeous mint green colour which goes perfectly with the muted grey canvass-y material. The bag is very structured as you open in, as you can see on the left hand bottom image, so this means it doesn’t get too squashed and holds its shape really well.
This might be the most expensive lip balm I have ever used. I didn’t actually buy this, it was a birthday gift from Space NK! I have to say, I am really impressed with this. If you don’t like minty smelling balms, stay well clear of this as it is very tingly and minty when you first put it on. It is a tad sticky but the consistency isn’t too off putting. The best thing about this little 7ml pot is that it makes your lips look REALLY plump and healthy. It is very hydrating and the packaging is so chic.
I have been using this eyeliner every day, it lasts really well and works wonders to make you look awake. I get up for work around 6.20am, so looking awake is a very important part of my beauty regime. The texture of this pencil is really soft, and unlike most eyeliners this doesn’t sting my eyes or make my eyes water a lot. Think this is going to be a staple from now on! Also, this looks great if you are doing a sixties eye but less extreme, a nude liner would look a lot more natural than a bright white one.
I’m still in two minds about this matte balm. Generally, I’m not a massive fan of matte things unless it is eyeshadows, but sometimes I put this on and really like it and other times I’m not keen.
The product itself is great, the colour comes off way more pink and less nudey than I thought it would. The texture is great, it isn’t drying and it is so soft and velvety to apply. It stays on really well, but not as good as some other lip products such as Tanya Burr’s lip gloss. I think I will keep trying with this, as I might end up learning to love it!
I am on my second pot of this, the previous one had lasted me a good 3-4 months. This little pot is sent from heaven…it really saved my skin in winter time and I think it will be light enough to carry on using through Spring and Summer too.
This formula is pretty much a gel cream, so it sinks into the skin perfectly, leaving your face moisturised and not greasy in the slightest. A little goes a REALLY long way, and I just love this stuff so much. Even though this is well embedded into my daily routine, it still feels so luxurious to use and I can’t imagine using anything else!
What have been your favourite products to use in January?
I have been nominated for an award for the fourth time in 2 months!! This is crazy for me, I really am grateful to all the lovely readers who land on my little old blog…to receive an award for creativity is even more of a lovely surprise and I am very happy! I have recently also been nominated for the Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award and the Liebster Award.
It’s really exciting, thank you thank you THANK YOU to Vogue Infatuation for nominating me for the Creative Blogger Award :). Please go and check her blog out because it’s brilliant!

Pass these rules on to them
This feels a bit strange to do a post with 5 random facts about myself but, here goes!
1. I am a binge reader…
When I was younger, my mum encouraged me to read from a very very young age, with books like Mr Men and Topsy and Tim. I think she ended up regretting this, because there would be times when she would ask me to do things around the house but I wouldn’t get up as I was stuck in a book for a good few hours. Even as I got older, it became dangerous for me to read at night because instead of reading a few pages and going to sleep I would read the entire book and consequently get no sleep.
Here are some of the books that I was obsessed with growing up:
2. I love lip balms…
I, like Vogue Infatuation, am slightly mad on lip balms. I have a lot. Especially in winter when you are surrounded by artificial heat, and harsh wintery winds a good lip balm is the best relief.
3. I love to bake!
My family and friends and some other lucky people (haha) know that I love baking, and it is mostly because I love eating.
Here are some of the things I have cooked/baked in the last year:
4. I hate scary movies…
I cannot deal with anything scary, or tense, or jumpy, or that contains severe peril. I can just about get away with Disney films, but even when the villain comes it’s touch and go.
5. I used to own one of these:
I think 90’s babies will remember this…it used to light up and it would keep you busy for ages. When I think about it, probably not the most scintillating of toys but HEY we didn’t have Candy Crush back then…:)
I hope this was entertaining to read, I really appreciate being nominated for another award!
