5 Things That Definitely Happen When You Get Your Hair Cut…

Hi Guys!

I sometimes find getting my hair cut a socially harrowing experience. It’s an odd place all round I think, no matter what salons try to do, it is. You are trimming follicles that grow out of your head and going specifically to a place that does this all the time.

So I thought I’d talk about the 5 things that definitely cross our minds (or at least mine) when I’m at the hairdressers.

No Kink Bobbles – Do they work?

So I’ve been curious about these little coils of plastic for a long time – the ones I have pictured aren’t branded Invisibobbles, I bought mine from Accessorise to try! They were around £2.50 – £3 and came in gorgeous two tone shades <3.

After a quick google I’ve found that these are called ‘Telephone Ponies’ – WTF.

invisibobbles

(My favourite is the blue and green one :))

The whole point of these coily little wonders is that you can tie your hair up without snagging it or creating knots, and it DOESN’T leave a massive kink!

I find that sometimes if I have used a normal hair band I will more often or not get a massive kink – no matter where abouts I put it. From the moment I started using these, I was impressed at their strength. I thought to myself – these are just coily bits of plastic! Now, because I have quite thick hair the only criticism I have is that they stretch quite easily and don’t go back into such a tight coil.

Considering that my hair is quite thick, they are surprisingly strong! It helps that they are tightly coiled in the first place, but as I said they do stretch quite easily (maybe the branded ones are better!).

But what I can say is that they do serve their purpose! They do hold hair well and I’ve not seen a kink as I’ve taken my hair down. I’m pleased with these and I do find myself reaching for them over normal hair bands.

They were quite a bargain too so I wouldn’t mind repurchasing them if they did end up stretching too far 🙂

Want to grow your hair quicker? Then try this from Lee Stafford…

Hi Everyone <3!

Today I’m posting about something that I have been testing out for around 3 months already…

*read to the end of the post to see my before and after*

To show you that I like this product, I can prove it by telling you I have used around 3 pots of this stuff and still have 2 left that I bought as back up! I’m talking about the Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment (the little pink pot) that everyone and their distant aunty has been talking about.

I cut my hair into a short bob at the beginning of the year (new year, new hair and all that – you can see my ‘transformation’ here). I loved having it short but because I went from having rather long hair to short quite quickly it was hard to adjust *weep*. The thing I missed the most was being able to scrape it into a pineapple explosion bun on the top of my head at the end of the day…ahh.

lee stafford hair growth

So around July time I decided to try a few things to encourage my hair to grow. I had previously dip dyed my hair and made it ombré red – which looked great until my hair had become so dry the ends started to go a bit orange *ew*. So once I had cut my hair into a bob it had basically lobbed off all the manky frazzeldy end bits and I had much healthier and thicker hair again.

I originally heard about the Lee Stafford Hair Growth Treatment  from the blogger and blogger Velvetghost (Gabby for those of you who are familiar with Youtube, I have met her and she’s lovely!). Instantly I had a feeling this would work well as she had used it to help her own hair grow and she had reported very good progress!

What’s great about this first of all is that if you buy it from Boots, usually there is a 3 for 2 going on which means that if you buy three of the hair growth pots it will only come to £16.98…AND you will get Advantage Card points!

It’s recommended to use this product each time you wash your hair, so basically what I do is get in the shower, wash my hair with my usual shampoo (I’m using the OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo at the moment) and then grab a golf ball sized amount of the Lee Stafford treatment and start to really massage this into my scalp. Part of me was sceptical that the only reason it’s worked so well is BECAUSE I’ve been really massaging it in and consequently stimulating the blood flow to my roots…but if it is a placebo I don’t care because it’s working lol.

Take a few minutes to really work this in – don’t worry about using this much as it doesn’t make your hair greasy it just helped my hair become shinier, healthier and stronger. You can add it to your ends too but I tended to just use my normal conditioner at the ends. I then would rinse this out – it smells amazing like really fresh herbs (which sounds weird but it smells good).

I really love this stuff, but more importantly I bet you guys want to see how it has helped me to grow my hair.

Well – here is a little comparison from when I cut my hair in January and how long it is now! Obviously I’ve only been using this product for a few months but I would say it has helped with the majority of the growth :D:

lee stafford

All in all I think I’m going to continue using this as I’d love to have my hair long again, it’s in so much better condition now and I think that’s in part down to the Lee Stafford Hair Growth treatment…

Have any of you guys used this? Any other recommendations on how to help your hair grow healthily?

My Beauty Guide to Dealing with Heat

heatproofmakeupIt’s hot at the moment in the UK.

I bet when this post goes up though, it will be peeing it down like nobody’s business…

There are certain ways you can avoid literal beauty meltdowns, conveniently today I have some tips for you!

1. POWDER IS YOUR BEST FRIEND –

On those days where it is hotter inside than outside, a good MATTE powder will help you out. Dust a light powder over your T zone and down the sides of your mouth, using a sparse make up brush. Don’t use a dense bristled make up brush or you will end up with too much product on the brush. Rimmel does a great translucent powder which is a bargain too!

2. USE AN EYESHADOW PRIMER –

This step will help your eyeshadow stay on your face! It will also help if you have oily eyelids (yuck, but it does happen). A primer will help colours pop, especially if you use a very pale coloured paint pot or primer. This helps in particular when you are slowly building up eyeshadow layers, for example using your transition colour first, then your crease colour, centre of the eyelid colour and then inner corner highlight! Oh and brow highlight if you are going all out :). I love the MAC Painterly Paint Pot, which lass forever.

3. WATERPROOF EYEBROWS –

Something that ASTOUNDED me when I received the Anastasia Dip Brow Pomade in my online Beauty Bay order (and blew my mind) was that it is waterproof. Waterproof eyebrows of all things, lol. Sounds ridiculous, but it actually is waterproof. Those days when it’s boiling at work and you are rubbing your face/head/eyes you don’t want your eyebrows to be smeared half way down your face!

4. A MAKE UP SETTING SPRAY –

Nowadays you can actually get make up setting sprays that are MATTE! How amazing, so you can put all the prep work in using the tips above to make sure you don’t end up a sweaty betty and then you also have the added assurance of having a matte setting spray! It will help keep everything in place even if it is boiling hot and you feel like your face is going to melt off your skeleton. This NYX one looks like a contender!

5. KEEP YOUR HAIR OFF YOUR FACE –

This one is more of a skincare tip, but keeping your hair off your face will mean that you have to touch your face less. Touching your face lots in the heat isn’t good for your skin (especially if you are working in an office or germy environment) as it will transfer bacteria! This just means more spots to cover up with concealer…ew. For this easiest way is to plait your fringe across the top of your head, use a bobby pin to clip your hair back, or an Alice band to keep it off your face!

I hope you guys have enjoyed hearing my tips! Do you have any of your own?

Thanks for reading :),

Battle of the Texturising Sprays

My hair is short, so doing things to make it look different is quite hard.

I tend to straighten it almost every day, at the weekend I give it a bit of a rest and it’s usually scraped up with a few pins in it to cure my mullet syndrome (not all of the hair fit in so I get a little tail at the bottom).

One thing I like to use is a texturising spray once it is straightened, which gives my hair more oomph and volume. I have two to review for you today, one of which is the spray I tend to reach for more often and the other one has it’s pros but it disappoints in the performance factor.

Round 1…ready…FIGHT!!

battleofthetexture

The L’Oréal #TXT Texture Styling spray is designed to add volume without the backcombing. This is a thin tall bottle so it feels like you are still getting quite a lot of product which is great.

It sprays nicely and it smells so so lovely! The smell is what makes me keep using this, as unfortunately it doesn’t really do what it says on the bottle. At first, when you spray this into your hair and foof it up a bit your hair looks great, but it definitely doesn’t last very long.

I usually use this by lifting up the top section of my hair all around my head and spraying this into the root and the length all the way around. This way the top layer of hair doesn’t get too much product in it and it still holds the texture (if you’re using the right spray :)).

The other spray is called BlowPro (curious name, I know). This spray is much more pricey than the L’Oréal one (that one’s only £3.79 whereas the BlowPro was around £10 (click here for a link but I’m not sure if Superdrug sell it anymore :()

The BlowPro spray gives out a much finer mist, which I think I prefer. What I love about this one in particular is that I can spray it in in the morning, go to work and look in the mirror and I can see that it’s still working it’s magic :).

BLOWPRO

SO, at the end of that battle the Blow Pro Textstyle Texturising Spray is the winner (applauds).

The claim on the bottle is accurate, so I’m pleased. It’s just a shame it’s almost finished now…

Have you used any great texturising sprays?

Beauty Whys…

BEAUTYWHYS

Have you ever had a REALLY annoying thing happen to you when doing your hair or make up, which gets you thinking, ‘WHAI DIS HAPUN TO MEH’!!?

I am here to show you that:

1) It is ok to curse.

2) It happens to everyone (and it is a big deal hahaha)

and finally,

3) You gotta get through dis (thank you Daniel Bedingfield).

Here we go! *takes deep breath*

WHY NUMBER ONE:

Stepping out of your house without applying powder.

This happened to me this morning, I sat in my car and looked in the little slidey mirror and watched as a shine brighter than anything appeared across my T Zone. Thanks man.

WHY NUMBER TWO:

Applying your false eyelashes directly onto your own making them impossible to take off.

OMG this hurts so bad. They looked so nice on! Why have they melted themselves into my eyelash roots…I didnae go near any fire!

WHY NUMBER THREE:

You go through the moisturise/blow your nose cycle around 20 times.

Dry skinned sisters will know my feels for this one. You moisturise, your skin looks bloomin’ lovely. Your eyes start to water of their own accord. This makes your nose run. You carry on and put foundation/concealer on. You cave and blow your nose. DRY PATCH REAPPEARS. Repeat.

WHY NUMBER FOUR:

You get all up close to do your eyebrows, pull away and realise it’s given birth to thousands of teeny tiny hairs underneath your arch.

Close up, in your mirror your eyebrows are on fleek, they look the bomb and all other types of metaphors/similes. Then you look at yourself at arms length in a normal mirror and you realise you really should have plucked/threaded/chainsawed those bad boys. DAMMIT.

WHY NUMBER FIVE:

You use your Tangle Teezer on wet hair, works like a dream. You then run your COMB through the same hair and holy shit why does that hurt so much!

This again happened to me today. La la la all well and good using my trusty Purple Glittery Tangle Teezer. Then all of a sudden you switch to a comb for your parting and BOOM a thousand broken hairs. This is why when you go Tangle Teezer, you never go back. (What are you talking about, of course you can use it in that context).

I hope you enjoyed my Beauty Why’s! Please like and comment if you can think of your own or you have been through these and feel my pain 🙂

Lots of love to you all,

National Asian Wedding Show

Hi ‘Pressers!

My eldest sister is engaged, so we went to the National Asian Wedding Show at the Birmingham Motorcycle Museum last weekend. This was a great opportunity for me to see all of the make up artists, hair stylists and fashion exhibitors, and obviously as it was an Asian show that meant there was ALOT of bling to see!

I thought I would show you some of the best pictures from the day, tell me your favourite!

We also went to a catwalk show, which was about an hour long and we saw lots of really lovely saris and outfits…some of the colour combinations were dreadful, but most of them were blingy, bright and beautiful!

New Year, New ‘Do!

For a while now I have been toying with the idea of a graduated bob, as I have had long hair for many many years now. I dip dyed my hair recently, and I have done it a good 3-4 times before. This had caused my hair to become a bit dry, and the red section that was dyed had started to take on an orangey brassy tint. I have tried dying over the dip dye before but my hair hangs onto colour for ages, and the lighter orangey red would just be visible under any darker colour I put over the top. A good old chop was required to cut off the drier ends, and get it looking healthy again!

So, I decided to take the plunge and actually get my long hair chopped into a bob. I have a pretty round face, so I was worried the bob would just emphasise this, but because it is graduated it isn’t too bulbous looking.

Here is the obligatory ‘before’ shot:

IMG_2103

I was nervous I’ll admit, I know it is hair at the end of the day and it grows back quick…but still it’s a pretty big change!

The thought of less hair drying time, and the ease of spritzing a quick texturising spray and skipping out the door kept me stoic and determined!

Take a look at the mass of dip dye covering the floor!

Extensions, anyone? *shudder*

Once it had been nicely blowdried and straightened, with layers put in I got excited and ended up being really really happy with it. Yes my head feels lighter, and my neck is a bit chilly, but I really love it 🙂 and my hair looks and feels SO much healthier!

Here it is:
