‘Brooklyn’ – Ciaté Nail Polish by Olivia Palermo

I have a pretty large collection of nail polishes and to be honest, alot of them sit on the bottom layer (not neatly either) crying out for a glimpse of daylight.

One of the poor little polishes I dug out of the depths was this shade called ‘Brooklyn’ from a limited edition Ciaté set that Olivia Palermo created with them – not specifically for me lol, I’d like to add! This polish came in the Ciaté Fashion Edit set which contains three other lovely shades as well.

Brooklyn Ciate Olivia Palermo

In the bottle, this shade looks beautiful! It’s a very warm toned dark purple (this is hard to describe but in the light it looks like a browny purple). The formula of these Ciaté polishes is questionable – I don’t think it’s fair to say that ALL of their polishes are like this because I don’t actually think that. These ones aren’t very good to be honest – they are very watery and sometimes when I’ve used these ones they take even FOUR FLIPPIN COATS to get a decent opacity (big word, right) 😉

Two years ago I actually bought myself the Ciaté Christmas Advent Calendar and the formula of these ones was amazing! But this range with Olivia Palermo I’m not as convinced because you have to work way too hard to get a normal standard of colour on your nails!

I really tried with this polish to get the opacity to the level it is in the picture above and don’t be fooled – that shine has come from my Trusty Seche Vite, not this polish. Lol, a real pity as it’s a lovely shade it just performs like a poo. P.S Three days on and it’s already chipped. Like. Fo’ real.

Anyway, I’m going to carry on listening to Arcade Fire now.

Bye for now!!

I love you all like a fat kid loves pop tarts

Ciaté Nail Polishes – Olivia Palermo ‘The Fashion Edit’

ciate

I’ve always loved Ciaté nail polishes since last year when I had one of their advent calendars. They have a great range of shades and really pretty glitters aswell. This set that I’m reviewing for you today is from the collaboration between Ciaté and Olivia Palermo, called the ‘Fashion Edit’. (Quick note, she’s also developed a make up range with them too!)

This pretty little collection has shades that wouldn’t go amiss around Fashion Week, and it has four shades to see you through any special occasion. The shades included are:

These shades are really pretty, my favourite so far is the soft, milky nude which is very chic and flattering on the nails.

Here is me wearing ‘My Off Duty Nude’ 🙂

my off duty nude

The polishes themselves take around 2 – 3 coats to get them quite opaque (particularly the nude one) but that’s not too excessive when you compare it to most other nail polishes. My only criticism of these polishes is that on their own they are BLOODY expensive. £17 for a nail polish?!?!? For one?!? The set isn’t too badly priced at £25.

Mental!

I know Olivia Palermo is the person they have collaborated with for this but what has she put in them…caviar?!

What do you think of these? Have you tried any of this range?

🙂

Deborah Lippmann ‘Roses in the Snow’ – Review

Hello People!

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend so far :). I’ve got a very BEAUTIFUL nail polish set to review for you today, by Deborah Lippmann. The set is called ‘Roses in the Snow‘ and features a gorgeous blush pink, muted shade and a pretty pink glitter top coat. You can buy this set from Selfridges, (apologies may be out of stock), Look Fantastic, and I think you can get it from Harvey Nichols too (my family and I had an early, fake Christmas and my sister bought this for me as a present :)).

This set is packaged so nicely, it actually has snow in the clear section of the packaging <3

deblippmann

I’m really a massive fan of blushed pinks at the moment and have been wearing this colour in every way that I can!

The bottles are so pretty, I love the way the actual glass bottle is different to normal polish bottles because at the bottom there is a chic looking indent in the base of it. The bottle tops have a pearlescent feel to them which make them feel really luxurious. The shades themselves are stunning…‘Modern Love’ is the blushed pink polish and ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ is the pink glitter.  The shades and the formula is very good – but I can’t say I’m wild about the staying power of these.

Using my trusty Seche Vite top coat the tips of the polish still wore off, and the glitter top coat adhered well but didn’t last very long. I found that the polish was PEELABLE by around day 4 – which is a real shame. I don’t know if this is due to the formula OR the fact that I used Seche Vite over the top (usually it lasts a lot longer than that, sometimes two weeks).

roses in the snow

I really like the shades of these polishes but I have to say I was disappointed with the lasting power – when you think about the price of this set it is quite a lot for just two polishes where the bottles are actually quite small. Something like Essie would probably be better value for money and the formula could be better too!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post!

On a quick note, I’m pleased to tell you I am almost at 300 followers on Instagram and I’m now on 425 followers on Blog Lovin’!

Thanks to anyone who is following me, I genuinely love being part of these two platforms and I am particularly obsessed with Instagram <3

Essie’s Lilacism with Gold Glitter

So, I go in phases of really liking doing my nails and then hating them. Not too long ago I had some gel polish done (french) which was great – up until you could see they were growing out…then I hated them with a passion.

The relief I felt when I had soaked them off was UNREAL. Seriously lol. This has since reinspired my love of nail polish – from years of biting my nails when I was younger (I stopped halfway through my uni exams – did not make any sense but I am glad it happened!) I am now glad to have long, healthy nails.

Most recently, especially in the run up to Christmas, I love using glitter polishes. The only thing I hate is taking them off! Here I’ve used a No7 Nail Effect Gold Glitter polish – sorry I don’t think they do this anymore!

I’ve done quite a simple nail look with Essie’s Lilacism which is a beautiful cool toned lilac, with a heavy gold glitter  accent nail.

I love this look as it’s perfect for christmas – yes it uses pastel colours but I think the lilac goes really well with the gold glitter, it looks very luxe and has a touch of sparkle!

I shouldn’t really buy any nail polishes ever again, look at how many I have *hides behind eyes*

The Perfect Summer Polishes

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are having a lovely Saturday morning eating a crummy breakfast or enjoying a lazy lie in :). I have a few nail polishes to show you that are perfect for wearing in the hazy spring sunshine that we have been lucky enough to have in the UK. It doesn’t necessarily have to be pastel colours that you opt for in Spring/Summer, so I’ve grabbed a mix of brights and pales to show you that are my personal favourites.

springpolishes

I think the two Essie shades are my favourite from this pentagonal array. The formulae (?) for them is beautiful, a practical wide brush deposits just the right amount of glass like polish onto your nail and it’s so easily buildable (how is that not a word spell checker).

Here I’ll show you what each looks like on!

Looking forward to Spring – Ciaté Sherbet Fizz

Hello!

I have a very simple, but VERY bright nail look to bring to you today. I’m really looking forward to spring, being able to come home from work in the light and seeing flowers and blossom around in the world (could I be any more of a stereotype right now).

I got about a million and one Ciaté nail polishes at Christmas in the Advent Calendar, and the only nail polish I haven’t tried was ‘Sherbet Fizz’. It didn’t seem right to crack this one out at Christmas as it is quite a corally, pinky red which reminds me of tulips and sticks of rock!

As with the rest of the Ciaté nail polishes, it works best if you apply a very thin first coat, then build up the opacity in the second or maybe third coats :).

IMG_2841

The name ‘Sherbet Fizz’ is really fitting for this polish, not sure if you can see some of the shimmer in the bottle but there are some little golden flecks running through out it.

Compared to the rest of the Ciaté polishes, I think this one doesn’t tend to last as long without fading (even with a layer of Seche Vite over the top). In spite of that, it is a really beautiful colour and makes me look forward to sun and barbecues and…MORE SUN.

IMG_2840

I really like how this looks on a ‘squ-oval’ shaped nail, it’s a really pretty shade and because it’s quite corally it is bang on trend.

Nameless Nail Varnish?! Shame on you, French Connection

This week I had one of those weeks where I just really couldn’t be bothered with doing my nails. I left them bare for most of the week partly because I am lazy and partly because I remember reading about this crazy lady who had nail varnish on her nails ALL the time and they went weird and then she didn’t have any left 🙁 🙁 :(.(I think that story has frightened me a little).

When sifting through my nail polish collection (at the moment it’s in a large square Ikea box), I decided to revisit an old favourite. A while ago my eldest sister bought me a French Connection nail varnish set that contained some pretty random shades. Of all the shades, there was a brilliant electric shimmery blue, that was still quite dark but bright at the same time.

I remember when I opened the pack and turned the little nail polishes with matte bottle tops upside down I was DISMAYED to find out that they have no names. Not even a little number to identify them. In spite of this, I really do love this colour. The formula isn’t great to be honest, I have used a much paler pink shade from this range before and it needs a good 2 – 3 coats for it to start to build up the colour.

IMG_2619

On top of this I have used Ciaté’s Celestial, once again, as you guys know I love this. This glitter top coat just goes so beautifully over other blues due to the teeny little blue flecks in the polish.

Have any of you tried the French Connection nail polishes? Also, does anyone have any good tips for nail polish storage? I definitely will be having a cheeky look on Muji very soon from what I can tell…

Ciaté Mini in ‘Silhouette’

Hi Everyone!

This is becoming a bit of a weekly thing now (a nail look post), so just to introduce the schedule from here on out I will be posting at least 3 times a week, with a nail look on Sunday at the beginning of the week. Then I will also be posting on Wednesday and Saturday! (P.S There may be some bonus posts on some weeks so keep your mascara’d eyes peeled).

The nail polish I have tried this week is one of the mini’s from the Ciaté Christmas Advent Calendar, which is called ‘Silhouette’. I think the name is very fitting for a polish of this colour as it is very chic, understated and glamorous. The colour itself is a burgundy, browny red, with a touch of glitter throughout it. When it catches the light, the red that shows up is much more of a true red and this makes it pretty special for me.

IMG_2301
Tilted the polish so you can see how the glitter shines gold and red!

This polish does need a good two coats in order to build up the colour and opacity. When you apply the first thin coat, it looks like a really light pink. Once you let that dry for a few seconds and apply the second coat it takes on a whole new dark, moody colour which I LOVE <3.

Such a gorgeous colour!

What are your favourite colours to start the new year with?

I think I just can’t let go of the burgundy’s…:(

Tanya Burr ‘New York Night’ and Ciaté ‘Celestial’

Well, that’s a pretty magical blog post title, if I do say so myself.

As you guys know, my nail polish collection has grown considerably over Christmas, and soon I will be doing a ‘What I Got for Christmas’ post so you can see all the pyjamas (ehem I mean gifts) I was kindly given.

Both of my sisters know I love Youtube and Tanya Burr’s videos, and I was excited to open up two more Tanya Burr polishes on Christmas morning!

One of them I have used below, it is a deep dark mauve/purple, with the lovely name ‘New York Night’.

IMG_2072

Over the top, I decided to pair it with Ciaté’s ‘Celestial’, which is a really Christmassy glitter top coat with a mix of small and large glitter pieces. What makes this different is that it also has tiny light blue particles through it.

IMG_2074

I really love this look, I mean ‘New York Night’ is really lovely and chic on its own, but with ‘Celestial’ over the top it really looks…cosmic :O!
