Dream Sun Bronzer – A bit of a disappointment…

During a venture to Boots not long ago, I stumbled across a product that I thought would change my blush/bronzer game forever!

I am a big fan of multi tasking products as they save so much space, time and effort and they happen to be great for travelling. So imagine my glee when I saw the Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzer and Blush in one  which looked right up my street.

I loved the idea that in summer when it’s all sunny and colourful I could just dip a brush into this pan, swirl it around and get the perfect mix of blush and bronzer to get a bit of a summer glow. The shade I bought was ‘Golden Tropics’ which was quite a light bronzer powder with a pretty pastel pink blush section in it.

Dream Sun Bronzer - Golden Tropics

This has a screw on lid which I thought was quite a good touch – sometimes compacts like this just have a weak plastic cover that you push onto them which can often break, but this one was a bit more sturdy.

Moving onto the actual powder itself, this bloody stinks. It has SUCH a strong smell, like really intense parma violets (which I happen to hate the smell of). In fact, I’d go as far as to say that the smell actually puts me off using it and makes it an even clearer point to me, that this is a product which has perfume in it.

So, if this compact had a really good colour pay off or something like that, I MIGHT be able to give it a second chance. Most disappointingly, this product has a serious lack of colour and lasting pigment. I tried to swatch this for you guys a good two – three times and couldn’t get a very good picture to show you:

Dream Sun Bronzer 3

You can see from the above picture that the most pigmented part of this compact is the blush, the bronzer is neither here nor there. This bronzer and blush contains shimmer throughout the whole thing as well, so if you are after something more matte stay away from this. There is another shade of this bronzing compact available (a darker one) but I’m unconvinced whether this would really change my opinion of it.

In the pan this looks REALLY nice, but unfortunately that’s as far as it goes :(.

Dream Sun Bronzer 2

Have you tried any good bronzer/blush compacts that you can recommend? That don’t stink? Haha!

Tanya Burr’s Peachy Glow Cheek Palette

I have been wanting to try this Tanya Burr Peachy Glow Cheek Palette for a long time – I was a very good girl because I saw this in Superdrug, DIDN’T buy it and then as I was still thinking about it the next time I went in I bought it as my reward for being good. Lol, I’m sure that’s how restraint works.

Out of Tanya’s make up and nails range the things I have loved the most have been the nail polishes – her formulas, colours and packaging have been on point and she has recently revamped them aswell and I’m a big fan of the new look range! I had never tried any of the palettes she has brought out and this was the one I had my eye on the most, so I thought I’d do a quick review on it!

tanya burr peachy glow

The thing I like the most about the palette first of all is how travel friendly it is – it’s light, it has a bronzer, highlight AND blush in one and it’s not too expensive so already it’s a worthwhile investment to add to your travel bag! This palette only costs £8 so it’s a bit of a bargain.

I quite like the simple packaging, it’s cute without being saccharine. It has a magnetic close I think, but even if it doesn’t they have got it just right. It has a nice, large mirror in it and you get a decent sized pan for all three of the powders.

tanya burr palette

When it comes to the actual formula of the powders, one thing I can definitely rave about is the pigmentation. You most definitely do not have to swirl your brush around in the blush to see it on your face. In fact, when I first tried this I literally touched my brush to the pan and then applied it to my face and there was enough product on it! (crazy)

So yep, you’ve got it, this palette may actually last you until you are 90 years old and resting your freshly manicured hands on your zimmerframe **what an image**

One thing I’m not massively keen on is that there is a lot of fall out with this powder. The shades are all beautiful – you have a bronzer called ‘Beach Bronze’, a blush called ‘Apricot Flush’ and a gorgeous highlight called ‘Champagne Shimmer’ *drools*. But when you do apply this with a brush, you have to tap off the excess product and there is ALOT. If you can get past this, you will be overwhelmed by the pigmentation and how blendable the powders are.

The highlight is lovely but it’s very finely milled like the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow (at a fraction of the price) and I’d say the CT one has a more ‘candlelit’ vibe about it.

Have you tried anything from Tanya’s make up range?

The Brightest Blush That Ever Did Live

I have a product to review for you today that is very versatile – some people will look at this and think it screams summer and playful days, some people will think this will give you a winter pinched flush. I happen to sit on the latter side of the fence. The product I am reviewing for you today is the MimiDidi Mineral Blush in the number 11.

Mimididi

I don’t blame you if you take one look at this blush and want to run away from it, holding your hands up to your face in fear. This is one of those products where a light hand isn’t just desired – it’s needed. Saying that though, I really love this blush as it is perfect for making it look like you’ve just been out for a brisk winter walk (wrapped up in a warm coat and a fluffy scarf).

I would recommend using a very soft, sparse blusher brush for this. Also, making sure once you have lightly dabbed your brush into it I would tap the excess off. This will make sure you can start off with less on your brush and slowly build up the colour if you want to.

What I especially like about this is that it is affordable and completely MATTE. Too many blushes nowadays are packed with shimmer and I think it can be too much sometimes. Especially if you want to use a highlighter across your cheekbones!

blush

One other thing that will stop you looking like a clown is to use a white or cream bristle blusher brush – if you use one with black bristles it means you might not know how much product is on your brush in the first place.

I really like the packaging of this product too – don’t get me wrong, it is plastic but it is sturdy enough to travel and the chunky compact is quite nice to hold. Also – this would make a great Christmas present!

I have a 10% off code for anyone who is interested in browsing Born Pretty Store who kindly gifted me this product – the code is

Happy Shopping everyone!

My Autumn Beauty Essentials

**READ TO THE BOTTOM OF THE POST FOR A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT**

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons (out of the 4 that is) and there are certain beauty products that I think are essential in this leafy, cosy but chilly time of year.

When you compare spring to autumn (those weird in between-y seasons), there are conditions that change the essential beauty items you need. Central heating can change your skin and make it dry, weather can disrupt your haircare routine and the dark nights gives you the opportunity to experiment with bold lips and sparkly eyes.

Here I’m going to run you through my Autumn Winter Essentials!

autumness

FACE:

Dewy skin is a distant memory when it gets to autumn – the most important thing I usually need is for my skin to be matte, moisturised and clear of blemishes. The best foundation I have found (HA) is the Estée Lauder Double Wear. This is a great matte foundation which isn’t drying and has a great range of colours to match with your skin tone. It isn’t a thick foundation, but it has very good buildable coverage. It lasts a full working day, I would say…and you don’t need a lot of powder to set it in place – it almost sets as a powder itself. The shade I have is ‘Ivory Beige’ which is great for lighter Asian skin tones.

A more mauve toned blush is a great addition to your make up bag for autumn. Try to choose one that is pigmented and lasts for a long time. I really like the MAC Mocha blush, which has no shimmer through it and comes off a browny mauvey shade. It’s really beautiful when used across the cheekbones, but just be careful not to apply too much as it could look a little ruddy.

For a highlight, one product that is particularly good for darker autumn nights is the MAC Mineralise Skin Finish in ‘Soft & Gentle’. I’ve talked about this product a lot on my blog before, but it really is that good. A very light coloured gold, shimmery highlighter, it is best used with either a fan brush or a slightly sparser make up brush – just dust it across your cheekbones and on your cupids bow.

Finally, to finish your face make up, a good setting brush is a must. I only actually got one of these recently, I invested in a Real Techniques setting brush for powder to set my concealer. This is a sparser brush that others in the range and it means that you don’t end up caking on powder on to your face – building it up in thin layers is the best way to make it last longer and look great.

EYEBROWS:

Yessss, eyebrows has it’s own section. :). SO, for my eyebrows, I’ve started to love using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in the shade Ebony to create a slightly bolder brow look – usually I would just use the Soap & Glory Brow Archery which creates a more natural brow.

LIPS:

For lips, if you are creating a nude lip one of my favourite lip liners to use is the Revlon Nude Lip Liner. It pretty much does what it says on the packaging and I’ve found it’s a great match for my skin tone (it’s a browny toned liner for a nude lip). I actually used this on my sister for her wedding reception make up and it was a great match for her too.

Finally, for a bold lip one of the best shades of lipstick is Rimmel’s ‘Starry Eyed’ which is a browny burgundy colour. It’s not a very shiny formula, but is great with a lipliner and lasts for quite a while. It’s a very cool toned shade so makes your teeth look whiter too!

AND FINALLY –

I have made a Facebook page for my blog! You can see it by clicking here, OR the fancy image I’ve made below:

Passion for Pink!

At the moment, I am really loving pastel pinks, which is very unlike me. I usually like slightly darker or brighter pinks, be it in nail polish, clothing or make up form. Recently, I have been a bit braver and have been trying lighter more pastel-y colours, probably because we are almost at summer time :).

I went to a shopping centre yesterday and failed to resist the lure of the Mac counter. As usual, it was the standard ‘edge your way nearer to the products by using the borderline socially acceptable nudge’ process, but I managed to get my mitts on a new Mac Mineralize Blush in ‘Dainty’ and a Cremesheen lipstick in ‘Creme Cup’.

Now, the blush is really beautiful, I had been looking at buying a Mineralize Blush for a while now. It is a really nice peachy pink, with slight gold shimmer. I haven’t used this properly yet, but I already know that I’m going to love it. Usually day to day I use Mac ‘Mocha’ matte powder blush, which is a very muted dark pink. I am in a bit of a love hate relationship with Mocha, simply because some days it looks beautiful and some it looks a tad ruddy. Whenever I think of the word ‘ruddy’ it always makes me think of Hagrid from Harry Potter!

I thought this would be perfect for day or evening in summer time, and the slight gold shimmer is just enough to lift the cheeks, and not make it look like you are going to a 90’s disco.

Moving onto the lipstick I picked up in ‘Creme Cup’, this is a bit of a weird one for me. I do love pastel pinks at the moment, but this is a dangerous look as I have asian skin. I usually hate the way light lipsticks look on me, but for some reason I actually quite like this. Even better is if I layer this with ‘Hug Me’ by Mac, which is a Lustre lipstick. I think with a dark smokey eye, this will look really nice. (Sorry the pic is a bit blurry)

As you know Mac is a bit pricey, so the two product came to £35 in total, but they do last forever so I think it’s worth it :). I will now have to restrain myself from shops, at least until next pay day…3 weeks…not that I’m counting or anything.
