July Cohorted Beauty Box Review

Hi Guys!

I’ve been getting a Cohorted Monthly Beauty Subscription box for around 3 – 4 months now and I regularly film Youtube videos to show you the products and what I think of them. This time I thought I’d go back to my roots and do a good ol’ blog post about it!

Each month I find my opinion changes a little, because it really depends on what brands feature in the box, what the box value ends up at and what KIND of products you get in it. The value of this July beauty box is £106 – so bearing in mind you only pay £35 each month you are receiving some really high value beauty products for your money!

Why I Love London At Christmas Time…

Man, I love Christmas! It usually means a trip to London to see friends or family and this year was no different. I love London at Christmas for a variety of reasons, but there is just something so special about the bustle of the streets (or madness, chaos and ridiculousness). The lights, the smells, the dark evenings – it’s just so wintery and lovely!

5 Things That Definitely Happen When You Get Your Hair Cut…

Hi Guys!

I sometimes find getting my hair cut a socially harrowing experience. It’s an odd place all round I think, no matter what salons try to do, it is. You are trimming follicles that grow out of your head and going specifically to a place that does this all the time.

So I thought I’d talk about the 5 things that definitely cross our minds (or at least mine) when I’m at the hairdressers.

1 .It’s essentially one of the oddest places where they basically help you get dressed…

How to get Rose Gold Nails…

So, when I was browsing Youtube about a month ago I stumbled across an amazing video which was a ‘how to’ on chroming your nails, but so they turn out rose gold! I don’t know if chroming is an actual word but I’mma make it one.

I thought I’d write this up in case anyone wants to give it a go. You will need to buy a few things beforehand BUT the great thing is that you don’t need a UV lamp!

Here is what it looks like when it’s done!

My September Beauty Wishlist :D

Hi Guys!

I’ve posted wish lists before and this is definitely one of my favourite types of posts to write. It has a kind of PURSE FREEDOM that is very liberating, but potentially very dangerous. Somehow, posting about having/buying these products makes you marginally more comfortable with the idea of parting with money for these products.

It’s a double edged sword.

Here we go! Go grab a nice beverage and read up on my latest beauty lusts:

Fact: Pretty Stationery is Essential to Organisation…

Or at least in the blogging world, it is. When I find myself having to regroup and get organised with my blogging, work/life and social schedule I tend to grab a notepad to make a LIST. You gotta love a list.

I make lists of lists. I sometimes (if I’m being a bit naughty) will write something onto said list in order to just cross it out because I’ve already done it :’). What?! It helps with your sense of achievement!…

What should you use to set your Brows?

Setting your brows sounds ridiculous. I mean, think about it. It’s not a panacotta.

BUT if you are on top of the biggest trends in the make up world, you know that brows (and with a z) are a big thing right now. Brows that are on ‘fleek’, brows that SLAY, there is so much slang flying around they will need to extend the Oxford Dictionary by half just to cater for them.

Anyway, if you are like me and regularly need to tame/thread/hedgetrim/pluck your brows then you will know how important it is to set them with something so that they don’t end up curling into your eyeballs and looking all manner of unruly.

For the last few months I was using the Maybelline Brow Drama in Dark Brown which is essentially a tinted brown brow mascara. This was great for colour and the wand/brush was great but the hold was terrible. It didn’t really set them and often I would look in the mirror and my brow hairs had come out of place and looked a bit ruffled (ha).

So I thought it was time to try something new! I was in Boots not that long ago and saw both the Rimmel Brow This Way Clear Brow Gel (£3.99) and the L’oréal Brow Artist Brow Plumper (currently £5.99, can differ)

I wanted to try a clear gel in case the coloured one was too light for me! (light brows on me would look a bit insane)

I have found myself reaching for the L’oréal version more than the clear brow gel recently as it is a good colour for me – it’s dark brown and comes with a teeny tiny wand for getting all the brow hairs. The coloured brow plumper is good for making your brows a bit more 3D and the only niggle I have is that the wand gets ALOT of product on it.

So if you’re a bit rough handed with it you might end up with a few dark brown splodges on your face like I did in my most recent make up tutorial on Youtube (smooth).

The clear brow gel is probably the weaker of the two in terms of hold – BUT if for example you have blonde brows then this is a good way of setting your brows without having to worry about colours being wrong for you etc.

So all in all I’d say the L’oréal Brow Plumper is my favourite so far – but the clear brow gel by Rimmel will be great for travelling as it’s so teeny tiny!

Have you used either of these?

What I’ve Learned about Blogging, so far…

Happy Sunday!

Recently, I’ve started to see a lot more posts focused on ‘Blogging Tips’ and ‘How To Start a Blog’ circulating around the Beauty Blogosphere.  Instead of doing a general post I thought I’d do a more personal one to talk about some of the things I’ve discovered, trust me I’m going to be pretty honest.

Prepare yourselves.

(I’m currently listening to 90s garage while I write this so sorry if it goes a bit awry).

Firstly, anyone who has their own blog and a posting routine will know that you aren’t always in the mood to write. Times like this, in the past I have tried to write but I am just not happy with the standard of what I’m writing at all (OMG Blu Cantrell just came on). For me, the biggest thing to remember is no to be too hard on yourself when you do get these little non-bloggy moments. When you ARE in the mood, get writing and prepare a few posts in advance to get yourself a bit more organised. I think if you force the content, your readers will be able to tell too.

I find that when taking pictures for my blog, using a REALLY bright light helps to show the quality of products and a more detailed insight for the reader. This tip is especially important for people who don’t have a fancy Canon DSLR and might take photos using their phone, or Instagram. Bright, vivid pictures are really important, in a blogosphere that is filled with hundreds of thousands of beauty blogs it is important to stand out where you can.

One thing I’ve learned over the past few months is that blogging doesn’t HAVE to be expensive. You can get some really good deals on hosting and domains if you want to go self hosted. Also, not everyone wants to read reviews and hauls 24/7. This means you don’t need to go shopping and buy loads of products to review (unless you want to this is). So don’t be afraid to try more conversational blog posts, or even inspirational posts. It all helps for readers to get to know you better and those posts can have a bit more personality and can be a bit more fun to read.

This is really important: consistency. Consistency helps your readers get to know your posting schedule, in the same way that Youtubers’ have a schedule for their uploads. Knowing the popular times is always useful too. Obviously people are pretty damn busy these days, so at the same don’t get too disappointed if for some reason you miss the odd post here and there, but I’ve found on the whole it is much better to get posts prepared in advanced and even scheduled in. This helps MASSIVELY if you work full time too, use things like publicising to social media such as Twitter and Facebook making this easy peasy.

Everyone likes a good laugh. I’ve found that the people whose blogs I tend to read the most are generally quite funny people. As well as this, being honest and humble is important, making sure that this comes across in the tone of your writing. I think adding a touch of personality to each blog post will help to make you stand out from the rest and people will really get to know you. It can be easier said than done, but I try to write each post like I’m just talking to my friends :D.

By no means am I an expert on this, this is just my opinion and a little insight into what I’ve found when blogging over the past few months :).

What’s the one thing you’ve discovered about blogging that surprised you?

Thank you for reading

Find me at www.roshnimistry.com :)

I’ve made the move! You can now find me at www.roshnimistry.com…

This is not a make up related post…shock horror :p! On Sunday I made the move to register my own domain, which is now complete and I am very happy with it!

As I have only just changed over, please bear with me as there might be things that have gone awry but I will be keeping my watchful eye on it to make sure it doesn’t affect posting…you will still get 3 posts a week minimum.

It wasn’t the easiest process and I have a few tips to give you if any of you are looking at migrating your wordpress.com blog to a self hosted custom domain.

All in all it took about 1 and a half days of me looking into it and checking before it was completely wrapped up, I think this tends to vary depending on who you buy your domain and hosting from. Speaking to other bloggers who have already made the move to self hosted was useful too, even if they did it in a different way!

The tips I have for you…

  • Research – reading up on forums and how to’s will help you massively and give you an idea of any problems you might encounter, and how to fix them.
  • Make a list of the whole migration process – Now, as far as I see it you have two options. First one is to buy a self hosted domain and map it to your wordpress.com site. This will keep your likes, comments and followers as normal. Second one is to export and import your blog into a self hosting platform that has WordPress integration…BUT the likes on your posts won’t be transferred (I didn’t know this until after I had imported it, but luckily you can map it afterwards).
  • If you want Google Analytics and want to keep your likes on your posts, you have to have a business WordPress upgrade for analytics.
  • Keep a record of all order references for your domain and hosting, many sites offer a 30 day refund so that if anything happens you know you can go back to normal if needed.
  • Keep the support details of your hosting company handy in case you need to raise a ticket or email them, they are the experts and can help you!
  • REMEMBER that your WordPress blog still exists unless you delete it 🙂

I am really glad that I am now at www.roshnimistry.com, it’s really exciting and I can’t wait to focus on giving you reviews, how to’s and posts that are perfect to read with a cup of tea!

(Trust me, articles about hosting and domains just don’t go with a cuppa and a Malted Milk!)
