How To Fake A Good Night’s Sleep

I’m sure this post will resonate for a lot of you people who have been out last night and are feeling a bit worse for wear. If you’re like me when that happens you always feel like you want to drink all the orange juice in the world.

I thought I’d do a post on how to look awake when you feel FAR from it. There are a few handy tips that you can hold in your arsenal (not arse) to whip out on those days when you just feel BLEURGH.

  • Use a nude eyeliner on your waterline

A nude eyeliner will instantly make you look more awake, as it counteracts any redness or yellow tones in the whites of your eyes. It will brighten your eye area, and along with the second point below it will make you look much more wide awake. My favourite is the Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude £3.99.

  • Curl your eyelashes

Curling your eyelashes and applying mascara to the outer lashes will open your eyes up, making you feel much better about going outside and braving sunlight! Investing in a good eyelash curler will ensure that you see a difference straight away, which means that some days you will survive with just some clear mascara. You will probably know that my favourite is the Shu Uemura Eyelash curler £20. 

  • Eyedrops

Eyedrops will not only make you look more awake, but you will most definitely feel it too. They will feel soothing and cool on the eye which will help you slowly get restored to Setting: ‘Human’. You can get eye drops specifically designed to brighten and make your eyes more sparkly, so it’s definitely worth keeping a few of these in your stash for those emergency mornings after. I like the Optrex Eyedrops £4.25, though I’m not sure how much they live up to the claim of  ‘sparkly’!

  • Use a CREAM blusher

Using a powder blusher, it can sit on the skin and look a tad dull and ruddy. I’ve found that using a cream blusher (ideally quite a bright pink colour) is best for making you look healthy and well rested. Just be careful not to use too much as generally they are quite pigmented! (Layering small amounts dabbed onto the apples of your cheeks will make sure you don’t end up looking like a clown). I like the Max Factor Creamy Blush in Soft Pink £6.99. 

  • Use a highlighter

As well as using a cream blush, a cream based pearlescent highlighter is great for helping your skin to glow. I really like ‘Girl Meets Pearl’ from Benefit £24.50 . Using this, I twist the clicker twice and then swipe half of the circle with my ring finger and dab this along my cheekbones on one side, then use the second half for the other side of my face :). With this, don’t go close to your eye or this will attract attention to the wrong part of your face.
